'Cortana' Voice Activation on new Windows Phone

I saw a commercial on TV the other night about the new Nokia Lumia 725 with voice activation, like Siri from iPhone or that deep voiced guy from iPod. Halo is a microsoft publication as it were so do you think that this new voice activation is based on it? after all it isn’t exactly illegal as in theory microsoft own Halo as such.

Yes, when it was being made, they nicknamed it cortana for lack of another name. After a while, they liked the name so they kept it

another way halo has shaped the modern world of technology.

Way better then SIRI`s voice by far

Agreed. Cortana’s also a lot better at understanding my voice than Siri. I don’t have to repeat myself near as often.

Having Jen Taylor voicing it helps

And yeah, Cortana is an awesome feature. More personable than Google Now and orders of magnitude more useful than Siri.

Any Halo fan should want this.

I love having cortana in my pocket.

Would It work on my 920? There was an update but didnt download.

It depends. Are you in the US? If so, then Windows Phone 8.1 including Cortana is available for your Lumia 920.
You should definitely download the update. It’ll be worth it.

Just note, though: There are two updates. The first one is just a preparation update to make your phone ready for 8.1. The second update is the actual 8.1 update.

im not in US, but i will try - i didnt download because of wifi, i was using friends and honestly i cant be bothered to find my wifi details out just for my phone, you know, i have signal so i can call and text, and i have enough devices if i want to browse the web, only downside is i cant go on spartan assault and/or spartan strike when it comes out.

There’s a link to Microsoft’s update page for Windows Phone. You can use it to find out if the 8.1 update is available for your Windows Phone or not.

Damn i would kill ( figuritively ) to have that on my phone, instead i got the crappy SIRI voice.

That’s one of the many perks of having a Windows Phone. Also, check out these query responses I got from Cortana on my phone.

Can Siri tell you this?I’m just about in love

Does it really sound like Cortana??

Mainly on the pre-recorded “funny answers” and Easter eggs, but yes. There are some differences in voice, but the amount of Halo knowledge makes up for it. The voice on custom answers and user-defined replies tend to sound more robotic.
