just finished Halo 5’s campaign a second time to get all the Intel Files and there is one thing I am still confused on. Why is Cortana the Reclaimer? In a series that has spent numerous games and books explaining humanity as the Reclaimers of the Forerunner legacy now all of the sudden humanity were never the Reclaimers but their created are? I am confused, please help explain. Thanks
Humans are the true reclaimers but AI were made by them and based entirely on their brains. Cortana is a copy of Halsey’s mind making her basically a human turned into a computer. Cortana also managed to find the domain and permanent life as well as gaining warden eternals favor. This all combined makes it possible for her to take the title of reclaimer.
She’s not a Reclaimer anyway. She only has the Mantle.

Do they expect us to think the Domain has turned her into a terror? That never happened to any of the other AI’s the forunners built and had access the domain.
The only AI that ever turned was Mendicant Bias, But he was turned after the FLOOD (Gravemind aka Primordian aka Precursor) infected the domain and turned him against the forerunners.
So my theory is that she is being manipulated by someone, maybe mendicant bias or the Precursors…?

I believe that the legendary ending of the game gives us a hint at the motivations of Cortana and what is happening with her. During the legendary ending she is humming while we see the activation of a Halo array. The only other character that would hum in the series is was 343 Guilty Spark, I think that in the same way that the Ark would repair and replace the Halo rings maybe the Domain is replacing installation monitors. One of the most exciting things about Halo 5 is the various directions that the series can go in, all of the discussion and speculations about the motivations about not only Cortana but also the Warden Eternal. There are various lines that were said in the game that have clued us in to some of the character motivations. First when the Warden calls Cortana “My Reclaimer”, it is common knowledge that the a large sect of the Forerunners intended to pass the Mantle of Responsibility to humanity and they left their ancillas behind in order to assist humanity. It is possible that Warden after the countless centuries begun to grow bitter and enter rampancy, believing that the caretakers of the Forerunner legacy should be the ones to uphold the Mantle. With the introduction of Cortana into the Domain he saw his chance to begin the Reclamation, using Cortana to dismantle humanity thus allowing for the AI to take their place in the galaxy. The only thing he wasn’t able to account for is the emotional connection Cortana has for John. He tried his hardest to keep John and Cortana separate, but in the end after John and Cortana turned their backs on each other Warden’s Reclamation began. Second involves Cortana, after she locks Blue Team inside the Cryptum she begins quoting the Didact’s speech from the end of Halo 4. This cannot be a coincidence as we know from Halo Escalation that the Didact was composed. It is possible that the digitized Didact was sent into the Domain as well as part of his essence was fused into Cortana. Cortana now stands as a hybrid between her former self and the Didact. Like I said, so many possibilities.
