Cortana Reborn?

In Halo 5 Exuberant Witness said the Cortana by using the Gateway would be ‘reborn into the physical world’. My question is, why? Was it necessary to control the Guardians?

I think her rampancy? has led to an obsession with John. This obsession has led her to seek physical form so that they (in her mind) can be a physical part of each others lives.
Just a thought.

I thought that too but I was disapointed when she didn’t try to touch him like she did at the end of Halo 4. I mean she took away his weapons so there was no danger to her.

I think in one of the logs in the first mission they imply that Cortana can’t quite access all of this technology. I think this means that the Domain was sort of sealed off from the physical world. Its basically another dimension. The Chief opening the gateway on Genesis allowed Cortana to completely break free and this is what EW means by entering the physical world.

Or, BR chose that set of words to tease that she can materialize with the physical body that we meet in Breaking. Cortana does this again in Reunion when she says “it will be easier when we’re face to face”. But ostensibly EW is just talking about her being able to exert control beyond the Domain in the real world.

As to why she would want a physical body. There is that whole discussion in Halo 4 about how she can never feel the sun and know if it feels real. If you suddenly become a God and can materialize a hard light form then why wouldn’t you?

She didn’t touch him because that scene is meant to consciously mirror the end of Halo 4. But instead of having that tender moment and reuniting she turns her back on the Chief. Which the Chief is pretty much going “No Khaleesi I have loved you! Don’t leave me again.”

Which is bit misleading since they make out like she is completely abandoning him, then next mission she makes it clear that she intends to keep John safe and let him out once everything has changed.

Like Total said, I also got the impression that it was a semi necessity because she could not fully implement her plan from in the Domain, she could only reach so far from in there. Why that is, I dunno. (Because plot probably.)

Ah, “Because plot”.
That most-loved form of telling a story!

Cortana wanting a physical form was one of the few story threads carried over from Halo 4. That she obtained one as she began a galactic empire built on the bones of those she was sworn to serve and protect sorta dilutes the emotional impact that achieving this dream of hers might have on the audience, however.

There could also be a functional purpose. Maybe she’s genetically human, at least enough to pass whatever strictures the Librarian put in place upon the galaxy’s derelict Forerunner tech at large.
