When Cortana was in the UNSC Infinity system, shouldnt she have been able to look for Halsey, and see by official records that she was “dead”? i guess she could have dug deep enough to find evidence she wasnt, but i know they had people on the ship who didnt even know she was on board, so it seems to reason she wouldnt have been able to find out. regardless, it stands to reason that she would have definitely looked for Halsey, but it doesnt seem so when she comments later in game, not to tell Halsey how bad she got.
Also, where the hell was Roland when all this business was going down with the Didact?
Roland was probably commissioned after the Infinity returned to Earth, so after the New Phoenix event.
Probably the most likely explanation. Still, I can’t understand why Humanity’s biggest and most powerful ship yet didn’t have at least one AI on board at all times.
Cortana probably didn’t do much digging during her brief time on the Infinity, given her state. She probably stayed away from restricted files in case her protocols ‘slipped up’ and gave her away. After all- she was trying to stay in control likely so someone like Del Rio wouldn’t try to decommission her sooner.
Halsey was listed as KIA during the battle of Reach, and as the events in First Strike goes to show, Cortana and the Chief are very much aware that she is alive at the very least with Kelly last they saw.
So they would have no reason to believe she was dead since the old record hasn’t been touched. As far as the general civilian public is concerned Halsey “died” as a hero and credited with the creation of the Spartans. It’s still unknown as to whether or not Parangosky declassified the program in its entirety outside of the military by the time Halo 4 takes place, but as far as Glasslands and Thursday War’s time period are concerned the public is still none the wiser.
well infinity at least had BBs fragment, as well as the temp ai(theres no way it didnt have at least one smart ai by the time of halo 4(we should find out more in the next book for kilo-5))or Roland may have been there, who knows. but to tzu’s point, theres no reason why cortana wouldnt have looked for Halsey, regardless of condition, as thats part of the reason why they went to the infinity. idk

Pretty much this, Chief and Cortana have seen halsey after she was listed KIA.
That said, Cortana does seem to take a more…hopeless attititude after being on the ship. She has her little speech at the end of Ianoff Station saying that it won’t be her, maybe they’ll just pair him with another cortana model. And at the very end of course she seems to have not made any attempt to actually survive.
Cortana likely didn’t want to tell chief, even if she believed hasley was dead, simply because it’d put a big dampener on chief’s spirits while he’s in the middle of saving the world.
