I want to know if I was the only one who thought that the idea of a “Cortana-model” AI was odd. Not odd as in “bad”, just strange. As far as I know, Cortana was a one-of-a-kind AI and there is no real way to make more of her, legally anyway. So what does everyone think about the idea? Was it just her rampancy-based jealousy/despair talking?

You know you’re dying, that there is no help where you are. You’re best (only) friend suggests a solution, one that is somewhat unrealistic. What would you do?
I think it was a mixture of despair/wishful thinking.
It is only in H4 that John finds out that Cortana is special for an AI and can only be plausibly be fixed by Halsey.
Cortana isn’t aware of Halsey’s blight with the UNSC during Halo4 (or at least the majority of) and it is likely her belief (or a shard of her believes) that Halsey would be in a position to make another AI very similar to herself when the current battle is over.
Or Cortana’s words could have foreshadowed the coming of her child/children, ie imperfect but possible to make “perfect” clones of herself that she and Halsey have found a place to hide just after the events of First Strike but before Halo2.
Either way at “worst” I view those words as the same as saying “Contender Class AI” for those not familiar with Halo.
Not all Contender AI’s are created equal, the same could be said for “Cortana” AI’s.
I figured she just ment creating another AI using Halsey’s brain. I mean theoretically, wouldn’t that AI be identical to Cortana; atleast in personality.
I thought it was strange because the personality of an AI is described as unique… As in the personality of the AI is not correlated to the person whose brain is being used’s personality.
But maybe all she meant was that maybe Halsey could create another AI using the same technique that was used to create her. Which would be possible, because IIRC, she froze a few more brains that were suitable for the same purpose…
And maybe that’s why she says “it wouldn’t be me.” At first I took that as even if it looks and talks like me it’s not, but thinking about it after reading your post made me realize that she probably meant it would have a completely different personality.
