me and some friends of mine have been speculating about Cortana’s appereance in Halo 5. One question regarding this topic came to our minds and we hope some of you can answer it.
Everything following is pure speculation , however just in case some of this might turn out to be true: POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD
It was confirmed by 343 industries that Cortana appears in Halo 5 as “the ghost of Cortana”.
As all of us know Cortana is a smart AI and created from human tissue - dr. Halsey’s cloned brain to be exact. She also is one of the most advanced AI’s in the Halo universe. She was linked with Master Chief’s brain for a very long time through his neural interface. That means she basically was in his brain. Do you guys think Cortana might have left some part of her (purposely or not), a fragment or a copy, in Master Chief’s brain? Do you think that’s at least theoretically possible for an AI to do?

Even in the missions before encountering the flood? I always thought that’s only the case in second last Mission.

I think it may still be speculation but the below is from Halopedia:
The Halo Evolutions story Human Weakness provides an explanation for the Cortana moments. It is revealed that the Gravemind had successfully hijacked Cortana’s system, allowing him to speak with her voice. This was part of his plan to persuade Cortana and John-117 that Cortana was descending into rampancy. It is, however, not explained how the Gravemind was able to connect to John-117 all the way from High Charity. - Cortana Moments
It’s possible that something is using Cortana’s image to manipulate the Chief

if you want details, pick up a copy of halo evolutons volume two, grab volume one while you’re at it, may as well, they have short stories in them good reads. as for cortana’s appearance, ghost or otherwise in H5, umm “forerunner science i dont have to explain -Yoink- comes to mind” as a plot device, lets wait and see in 45 days
My favorite part about this speculation is that the main set of “evidence” is that it’s in the same paragraph as a quote from Frankie completely debunking the possibility.
“We obviously made Cortana’s fate in Halo 4 very clear.”
Very clear.
However, there’s still definitely room to speculate as to why we hear “Cortana” talking to Chief in Halo 5. I for one believe that it’s the Domain manifesting as Cortana in order to build proper trust with the Chief.
Given how her death has been confirmed in multiple forms of media already and Frankie saying her fate was clear and Frankie making it a point to call what Chief sees as a “ghost”, no she does not appear to live on in Halo 5.

how do you know that for all we know she may have done that she know her time had come so how do we know that she has not set up things to help Chief
