I keep seeing threads asking if people really think that Cortana is dead. Which in a even of a cliffhanger we’re supposed to ponder these things. What bothers me is that people ask if there could even be Halo without Cortana and the answer is yes. I honestly don’t want to see Halo turn into a romance instead of the action packed, alien killing, butt kicking it should be.
Before I’m sure many of us thought wow, could we have a Halo game without Sgt. Johnson, or the Arbiter, Guilty Spark, etc.
Yes! and Halo 4 has so many new characters. Cortana is an AI, not a human, and not an alien and even though she’s been with him since the beginning I would like to see change.
Personally I would love for Chief to take on a new AI for a while atleast, someone who’s the complete opposite of Cortana.
Let me know what YOU think/suggest/hope for please.
SPOILER: cortana will return to halo 5 as a human due to “the ********” advance technology. because in halo 4, in mission “censored” she was… (no more further explanation). you guys know what i’m talking about?

Well primarily for the fact that they built so heavily on her importance in H4 I don’t see killing her off as being a fruitful pursuit.
Lasky is cool just cause he’s sorta a big admirer of Chief like most of us, so it’s sorta like seeing what it’d be like to have one of us on the inside trying to help Chief along as best as a regular person could.
But over all the characters we have been introduced to in the past are all great and would be welcomed to make a return. Johnson is obviously dead but he was sorta liek Chief’s rock in a way - being a ‘normal’ soldier who is almost as capable if not simply as tough as a Spartan in many ways. Thel fighting either at Chief’s side or away against the revolting Sangheili back ‘home’ , or Buck and his squad once more(possibly as Spartan VIs).
It’s not just a love story (if at all) but the fact that Cortana is the only ‘fully human’ companion Chief has ever really opened himself to that makes her and their relationship interesting. I also think she symbolizes Chief’s underlying/suboncious WANT to protect humanity instead of simply being his duty.
Cortana brought air to an otherwise dull character. She was the sass and backtalk as well as the information agent to Chief. I was saddened to see her reduced to a damsel in distress in Halo 3 but things looked good in Halo 4… Oh well.
I would love to see Chief take on BB as his AI for awhile, at least for one game! Would definitely bring some much appreciated comic relief after all the human-AI romantic stuff in Halo 4!
I would love to see Cortana come back. It would not surprise me at all for there to be a new AI in Halo 5, then Cortana to return in 6 as a real person via the Composer.
Also, I would really love to see the Arbiter return. I was such a big fan of him.
I was glad to get rid of her by the end of H4 because she was a naggy bint and a total screw-up in the campaign. To much emo crap outa an AI, I mean seriously I would be deeply appreciative if you would refrain from speaking. Cortana I dont CARE you have rampancy I will just get another one later.
Lol no Cortana is not over rated. The truth is the Chief by himself is an uninteresting character, so what ends up making him and his journey interesting is the characters around him. Halo 4 story was as good as it was because of Cortana.

This would be the most reasonable and interesting.
I don’t think John is an uninteresting character without Cortana…she’s just the only one he has to talk to because she goes everywhere with him.
What’s more interesting than a masked person who’s face you’ve never seen lying spoiler and who you’d wonder how he became a Spartan.
Cortana is, and always will be, Halo’s deepest, most interesting and relatable character in the series for me. As has been said above, she is the reason John is even remotely interesting as a protagonist in the games because she was the catalyst for his development. But if she is truly dead now, I feel that there was great poetic resonance in her sacrifice as John realised in the end through his time with a machine that he truly is human.
I don’t think Cortana is overrated at all. Jen Taylor has always given a god-tier performance with the role, especially in Halo 3 and 4 where there was substantial development and trauma with her.
Traviss’ story in Evolutions, ‘Human Weakness’ was absolutely brilliant too.
Of course there can be a halo game without Cortana (even in the mai trilogy). Halo does not need to rely on her. Chief didn’t really need Cortana in Halo 3…
Also, characters come and go. I don’t see killing Cortana off as a bad thing. I think it may even improve the story.
She was a great character but I’m sick of her sitting there and crying all the time. As an AI she has a lot of emotion for being a computer, so many human like qualities it’s scary.
What romance? To be honest I have never seen any indication of a romance between the chief and Cortana in Halo 1,2,3 or 4. She is the chief’s only friend and a companion he has been with since he was fitted for his suit. If anything, Cortana symbolizes the chief’s human side. And the only reason she was pms’ing in Halo 4 was because she had all these rampant personalities. I for one love Cortana. But if they do replace her, I hope they replace her with someone just as interesting. Kind of like how Commander Palmer is a -Yoink- replacement for Sgt. Johnson
