These were some major parts of Halo 3 that always made me wonder, what are the Cortana/Gravemind moments? How are they able to communicate to Master Chief? Cortana was sending him messages and the Gravemind was able to speak with the Spartan when he entered a Flood hive. How do you think Cortana and the Gravemind were able to communicate with Master Chief?
The flood/gravemind have telepathic abilities, this is established in h3’s beastiarium and outright done in Silentium when the gravemind talks to the Ur-Didact. The Cortana moments seem like they’re mostly just the gravemind trying to mess with chief’s mind.

That does make sense that the Gravemind hacking into Cortana and sending strange messages to him and mess with him. But I imagine Graveminds don’t have telepathy at such a great distance such as from High Charity to Earth. Do you think it’s possible that Cortana still had some means of sending messages to Chief’s armor? And in the Flood hives, Gravemind was able to make a strong enough telepathic connection?

Maybe because he was becoming more stronger.
