Honestly, I don’t really find her end bittersweet. I don’t know the right emotion, but it isn’t that. Halo 4 ended so well that anything after that just can’t compare and it’s been a huge mess ever since. Maybe I’m just relieved it’s over.
I mean, I wanted the ultimate win.
You already killed her off once, doing so again wouldn’t have the same result. So, why not just make a big redemption arc, go into the Logic Plague and bring it back around to the pair saving the Galaxy from the Flood?
Yes, they can do that plot with the Weapon so that she lives on through this new character, but you’ve not been on adventures with the Weapon for 20 years and it wasn’t her that did any of the bad stuff. She has nothing to make amends for. You have as much attachment as if Chief was paired with Isabel and she entirely exists in the shadow of the original.
Much rather work with the Weapon than the genocidist.
I mean, Halo 5’s story decisions to bring Cortana back from the dead (because reasons) and then to make her a supervillain (again, because reasons) were unbelievably dumb.
I’m very glad to see them completely undo all of that here in Infinite. I don’t want time spent on explanations justifying the stupid things they decided to do in Halo 5, I just want them to move on.
I would have been happy if the opening cutscene of Halo:Infinite was chief waking up in the middle of the night saying “phew, Halo 5 was just a dream… I was worried for a minute”.
Looks at the Arbiter.
Plus if it’s the Logic Plague shes not really herself.
Arbiter at least admitted he was wrong and worked to make amends. Cortana basically just said she was sorry she and Chief couldn’t commit genocide together lol
Either way, doesn’t look like she gets to claim the logic plague or anything as an excuse. It was all her.
Cortana literally says she’s making things right in Infinite. If she hadn’t been locked down, yeah she probably would have done more to redeem herself. Cortanas ability to make amends was limited to her plan to stop Atriox and set Chief up with the weapon. But that’s due to circumstances beyond her control.
I don’t recall the arbiter apologising for the worlds burned or millions of murdered civilians and he defied the Covenant for his people; not humanity. If he gets a second chance and Chiefs okay working with him why would it be unspeakable accepting Cortana back?
We’ll see. I am not sure why you would put Halo 3 quotes in about her being changed unless that’s what you were going for.
Oh, she made things right by taking herself out. I’ll grant you that. Still though, she never admitted that everything she did was wrong, just that she did it alone without Chief. She’s gone now and I’m perfectly content with that.
It’s all fun and games till thay kill off your favorite character.
She makes no sense. It feelings over facts, I’m just glad she’s gone, for good.
