During the animated shorts of Halo: Origins, it is implied that Cortana had gone rampant or close to the end of her life while she and Chief were adrift (evidenced by glitchy eyes and discoloration). For those of you who are unaware, “Smart” AI’s, those capable of learning outside of their areas of expertise, only have an effective life of 7 years. After that, they will either think themselves to death, or believe themselves to be above their human companions and become rampant.
Given that this game is set in 2557 and she was made in 2549, she will either be rampant or dead. This will affect the campaign in a way that her loss will psychologically destabilize John or she will become a wild card and screw around in his head like a monkey with a 2x4.
The things is. In the teaser she looks fine for the two seconds we see her and Halo 4 is supposed to be telling cheifs and cortanas story. I don’t inkling cortana will die, but I do believe go rampant. And after all the damage she took in the gravmind it would make sense, man, halo 4 will be epic. Coviesvseliresvshumansvsforerunnersvsprecorsourvsnew enemy PLUS CHEIf trying to escape AND the possibility of flood AND so etching similar to halo technology PLUS rampant cortana AND all the epic new guns and graphics and sounds etc.
Yea, I will have to change my pants when I get it
Once when I buy it and midnight release
Once in the way home
Once when I first play the campaign
And several time throughtout the multiplayer
And forge
Etc
Beastly game
GAME OF THE YEAR 2012 AND 13!!

this is true but i was thinking that if they come across forerunners they have the technology to repair cortana, because there ancilla’s are like AI and they live for a long time

In CEA, if you watch the terminals, you will find out that Guilty Spark went rampant after being alone for so long on Halo.

Since it’s Halo, there will be no use in even wearing pants. I’m going to enjoy Halo 4 as much as I can since by the next day the world will be flooded by Halo juices.

I get what you are implying, but if the Forerunners were unable to keep their own AI that they had dedicated for the sole purpose of watching over the largest and most powerful weapon in the galaxy from developing God-like delusions, how are they supposed to fix an AI that is based directly off of the irrational human brain that can only survive for seven years?
I feel as though Cortana is too core into the Halo series that she would die off or go insane just as normal AI would. I mean sure, she should, but I feel like Chief will find a way to save/restore her or that will be part of the campaign: Saving Cortana from herself or death. There’s also the whole idea that Gravemind has somewhat messed with her as we saw in Halo 3. But it will definitely be interesting to see what 343 does with the campaign with such a serious issue at hand.
your forgetting a few detail if you read halsy journal you woulld know that indeed over time the Ai will die out or go rampant. but your forgetting that the ai may find a living or non living form of method inorder to preserve its self aka live
and cortana is different because halsy implanted emotions and memories into cortana and though halsy was a bit monsterous in ways she was generous and caring so it may be as there going to a forerunner planet
by which the humans were decendents of she may posses a body that they should easily be able to clone or use tech to learn to do such things inorder to preserve the Ai as spark was.
so as a weird twist cortana may get a spartan 4 clone body or something of her own in the future for all we know
It would not suprise me if Cortana begins to get a little skethcy as the story goes on in Halo 4, I dont believe they would “kill” her off though in their first tier of the new saga however. But there is a high probability that she will not she the end of John’s journey IMO
