Towards the end of the demo you see Cortana screaming something about not leaving the planet. A lot of people are saying it’s because she’s going rampant. I don’t think that’s the cause since her and Master Chief are too closely intertwined. If she’s gone, the Chief will be a sad super soldier shooting stuff. I expect to see a lot of signs of full rampancy to create more of a drama, but I don’t see a full conflict coming until the 5th or 6th game.
I think it has something to do with another AI that’s trying to take the ship so it can go wreck the rest of universe.

I think that could be her going rampant. But theres no guarantee she will stay that way. We’re on a forerunner planet with infinite amounts of advanced alien tech. Who knows, there may be something there that can fix our problem with her. I don’t think they will get rid of cortana at all. But Frank already discussed many times that her rampancy will play a part in the game.
On a side note, she really freaked out haha

Besides, she can’t really control it, and in Halo 3 she was already going rampant, and with rampancy it just gets worse over time
Her journey into insanity and eventually death will probably span throughout the whole of the new trilogy until reaching a final conclusion in 6, where she is either cured or isnt…
I suspect Halo 4 is just her showing initial signs of rampancy (mood swings etc).

I’m thinking it’s related to an AI battle. Showing code getting altered wouldn’t be too exciting.
Master Chief isn’t a character that would be shown struggling like that. Cortana does it for him so you understand the magnitude of the situation. Cortana is his voice. Cortana is used to say or show things that the Chief, as a character can’t.

That part of the video sent chills down my spine and gave me goosebumps. It was awesome!
Sure she’s going crazy, but John probably likes crazy; and I think she’s talking to an enemy trying to leave the planet and do bad things rather than to Master Chief in that scene.

My mind derped for a second when I typed it. None of my edits went through and I don’t want to do it on my phone again.
Since the Forerunner AI live for thousands of years (343GS) I’m saying that part of the story is finding out how that works and applying it to Cortana.
Whether it works or not…
343i did say that Halo 5 would be much darker and grim before the ending in Halo 6. Me thinks Cortana 'splodes in 5.

I forget, but isn’t every forerunner “AI” an actual person. They actually take their being and jam it into a machine? Like an altered Ghost in the shell type get-up. I’m a bit rusty in the books.

For all we know she might not have been saying that to Master Chief.
I think its because shes going rampant. Its easy to tell just look at her freaking eyes.
My guess is that they will find some way to keep her functional, but I believe that she forever retain some of the ‘Rampancy’, the erratic human emotions.

But seriously, what if she is yelling that at Chief? Maybe Didact or Master Builder messes with her head and corrupts her because she is now weakened and somehow convinces her to turn on the Chief and the UNSC? AI have turned on their makers before after all.
