During the trailer shown at E3, Cortana says “I will not allow you to leave this planet!”. She screams this to the person she is talking to. That is the question. Who is she talking to? Is she talking to John, the main antagonist, or maybe someone we don’t know yet? Well this is my theory. I believe she is talking to John. I have to reasons why she is screaming this to the Chief.
My first theory is she is being controlled by the leader of the Prometheans. She has been taken over, or brainwashed, and she is screaming to John as if she was talking for the leader of the Prometheans. Maybe the John knows a secret or maybe he knows how to destroy the Prometheans.
My second theory is Requiem (the planet that John and Cortana are on) has a special healing ability for AI’s. The enemies shown in the Campaign demo were AI’s, and as stated later in the trailer Cortana tells that AI’s only have a 7 year life span before they start deteriorating. So, if the AI’s on Requiem are over 7 years old, they have found a way to stop the deterioration of AI’s. Cortana has realized that the planet holds a secret and John is trying to leave Requiem. She is very mad and does not want him to leave because of her own selfish reasons.
Now I have another idea of who she is screaming this to. The leader of the Prometheans. You can hear him say at the end of the trailer that he has “long awaited this day, Reclaimer” (Reclaimer is a reference to John). The leader is trying to leave the planet and create havoc.
These are my theories and I think they are decent ideas. Does anyone agree with me? Or does anyone have other theories? I would love you hear more ideas!
John, why anyone else?
He got fed up with her nagging in Halo 3 and when she started to degrade in Halo 4, he decided it was time for an upgrade. thanks to Forerunner technology he’s now got a more intelligent and cool Ai called Triss. However, rampaging Cortana did not take this good and decided that they she would make sure he never left her…
Other theory:
During her rampancy Cortana gets massive hallucinations and think she’s talking to Prophet of Regret or Gravemind, all of whom she’d rather see stay (dead) on the planet instead of “escaping”.
At lest I was being creative and not choosing the most obvious answers
Sounds like perhaps Requiem is some kind of prison, keeping this ancient evil trapped inside and it’s now attempting to use the UNSC Infinity to escape which Cortana basically says “Not chance in hell.”

Nice!
My theory: The Gravemind -Yoinked!- her up when she was trapped. Also, the reason why she lasted longer than seven years may be because of the Forerunner tech she’s been exposed to.
So in a nutshell: Rampacy
EDIT: Maybe the Infinity is going to leave without John and Cortana gets angry with the captain.
I admit when I saw that I got extremely shocked. Saw her going rampant, but wasn’t quite ready for it.
Anyway, I have a feeling it’s John she’s talking to. Maybe John won’t have the heart to destroy Cortana, so he leaves the planet, and comes back in Halo 5 or 6 a few years later once she’s reached Metastability.

Actually it’s not John shes talking to. During the demo you hear the insurrectionists they refer to has the Promethians because they do now know what they are, attempt to board the Infinity. We know there is a Forerunner that despises humantiy, this Forerunner may strill be on Requim and after it discovers us, trys to find the location for our home planet, the Forerunner may have gathered the data later in the game to find Earth and is trying to escape which Cortana finds out about. Cortana is deteirorating but she may be trying to keep herself together. I do have a hunch we may have to go against her in future Halo games. I don’t think 343 would have us go against her now since she is the main character besides John.
It would be interesting if she was yelling at chief, but I doubt it. Other trailers have done similar scenes. But if you look at the surrounding, it looks like she is in a human ship so I could be wrong.

At the end, who I assume is Didact, says he has been “long awaiting this day, Reclaimer”. Now, if anyone has read the Forerunner books you’ll know that Didact despises humans. I am wondering how Didact knows who John is (I believe that is who he is referring to when he says Reclaimer).

I dont recall the Didact hating the humans. But I do recall some kind of Forerunner that did. But as I stated a Forerunner may be trying to use the Infinity to get off planet. Thats what Cortana may be trying to prevent.

This is my theory as well.
I also wonder if Chief is hurt in this scene or before hand adding to Cortana’s anger.
Cortana is going rampant, she is past the end of her aloted life span of 7 years. She is physically going insane, thinking herself to death. She is probably talking to the chief or the Captain of the Infinity, or both. It is a question now of it cortana can be saved. I am guessing that some sort of forerunner tech will save her and cure her of rampancy.

Doesn’t really look that way though. I still think somehow the Forerunner are going to try and escape requim.
