Now, I realize that this isn’t a pleasant thought, and I do not wish for it to happen (not only that it’s just a thought), but I wanna know what your ideas are for when Cortana dies. She was already sick at the end of Halo 3, and if I remember correctly her AI life is above the average of seven years. I understand she is a smart AI, which generally live longer, and that she was made by Dr. Halsey, but it’s bound to happen at some point in the series. The Panelists at Halofest said that the Chief and Cortana’s fates were to be decided this trilogy, so really all I could think was Cortana dying. I realize she has to eventually, and so does Chief, but I just don’t want to see it. The sound director at Halofest also said that he wanted us to really feel their emotions this trilogy, and share our own. He wanted to make us cry, be happy, be excited and so on. I can’t think of Chief dying, but I can see Cortana dying.
So once again, here are my questions: How do you guys think she should go? And how will Chief react? What happens after? Which game do you think it will happen in? Please tell me what you think.
I could think of this: Cortana is obviously dying, and she leaves Chief in the 5th game with a fancy climactic-type death. Maybe she’s killed by the enemies, maybe she just lets her life run its course. Chief, having been the closest with her, literally flips out. If she was killed by the enemies, he goes on like the scariest, rage-driven, destruction-fueled rampage. If she just dies as she was supposed to, he’s still maybe mad (breaks stuff, throws stuff, etc.) and then he calms down and gets sad. Maybe he just pulls the bad–Yoink- spartan blank-expression type thing, but I doubt that’ll happen.
Afterwards, maybe there are forerunners or pre-cursors or something that can help her live on through something else, and stay with the chief, or maybe she just dies straight up. She’ll obviously kind of haunt the chief as she did in the 3rd game, but maybe this time it’ll be happier. Chief will definitely show much more emotion after she’s gone, and that’ll decide his fate. In the 6th game, he saves something, thinks of Cortana, and dies. Maybe they die together, and that’s the end of the trilogy.
I don’t know, these are all just ideas. Personally, when Cortana does go (if it’s not at the end of the 6th) I wanna see Chief literally freak out and just break everything. But that wouldn’t be very Halo-ish, and probably not appeal to most people. Then again, emotions will run deep this trilogy. But yea those are my ideas, sorry if I ranted. Lemme know what you think!
