Hey all, starting this thread just for a quick vent and to see if anyone else holds a similar experience as me.
I for one have been mostly ecstatic since Core Play was added to replace the triple team playlist, it’s a great source for objective based games that has a pretty good XP payout to compete with WZFF. Slayer, in my opinion, is very repetitive and rather boring. Good to play every once in a while, but if it’s all I am playing I get bored far quicker than other game mode. This is a bummer because slayer seems so obviously favored in social arena as a game type: all of Quickplay is slayer, about half of all fiesta is slayer and it’s the same with big team battle. Infection is still by itself which is fine, but if I ever want to play objectives (which I do!!!) I have to either wait 30-45 minutes in ranked team arena in order to get creamed by a bunch of MLG pros or I wait weeks for Core Play to return, and when it does its normally great!
Unfortunately today, a day off of mine, I was hitting my head against a wall just waiting for objectives to come up in core play and slayer is again showing up for about 60-70% of the matches, at least for a few hours there. These waves never last too long and If you play long enough it definitely evens out over time (mine already had a bit in the last hour or two). Still, it just sucks to get stuck in these traps of 10+ slayer matches for maybe a couple of objectives here and there when this is the very playlist I am playing in order to avoid more slayer matches.
This is a lot to say that I really wish there was a social playlist just for objective variants in Arena. I know the games not getting another update so it’s not gonna happen, I just wanted to share that it makes me sad that this is the case and am curious if anyone else shares the same sentiments or if I’m just the lone wolf here on this one.

I don’t understand why they add slayer in core play, if I wanna play slayer I choose the traditional playlist.
I’ll give you an advice, if you don’t want to play slayer try to join in a friend’s match that has already started, then choose the core play playlist to avoid joining in the match of your friend. So you can avoid joining in a game with a game type that you don’t like.
Totaly agree with you, in my opinion is more fun and competitive to play with random or friends team

I’m very interested in this trick, but I am not sure i understand the directions exactly.
Are you saying that when I am in lobby waiting for an impending slayer match I sould: Pull up my friends list, join any in match game my friend is in, quit that game and search for core play again?
If so, wouldn’t that result in a ban for quitting something?

Yes, that’s exactly what I mean but when you join in your friend’s match you are in a lobby waiting, not directly in the match so you can switch to social playlist and abandon the team of your friend. Now, that doesn’t result in a ban for quitting because you aren’t quitting a game that has already started, only try to don’t quitting a match because it’ll punish you with at least 30 min.
Also, I recomend you changing the type of search every time you do this to a avoid joining in the same match.
I honestly wouldn’t mind if they replaced the current version of Quick Play to Core Play and changed the name to Quick Play. It’s so much better, and it’s the only way to play Team Arena with all of Halo 5’s mechanics.

I 100% agree. I dont know why they made quick play so boring.
