Core gatekeeping

I’ve always been assuming that the fracture after Tenrai will be some kind of Hybrid core which will allow use of everything.

It makes sense and is an easy win all ways round:

  1. Keeps canonicity of cores and core types for those who care about that
  2. Recognises people’s concerns with current system and addresses them
  3. Sets things up for the future

Canonically Spartans and ODSTs have been seen mixing or using updated cores, and the MK V[B] in game is gen III. So crosscore shouldn’t be considered non-canon.

Especially since it’s the same color your buying or unlocking

So they can say they are still adding fresh content

I think the problem can be best summed up like this for customization:

-Barring the unlockables that are either by the lockers in campaign or free rewards from reaches battlepass, we have 2 core issues

  1. The Mark 7 armor core, is supposed to be the free one anyone can play. At base, this should have ideally been something that anyone plays to earn some cosmetics and other gear. Yet even with the battle pass, we only get access to like, 3 of these helmets out of all that variety? The rest is just locked away in a rotating store that just doesnt do it.

Ironically, this set has no problem with shaders, you can get a good amount of shader vareity with this armor set over any physical model parts for the armor.

  1. The mark 5 from reach, this is the one that has all the cosmetic options, a good clean vareity of armors, typically the stuff noble team was wearing in Reach. It has a couple others in there too, like the ODST, Recon, and Mark 6. However, the downside of this one is that not every part we paid for, is included. Which is pretty dumb. We can get a few good customization options with what is there, but in other cases like shoulders we cant even get stuff like one of Carters or Emiles shoulder knife which is…kinda lame. It doesnt make sense why, a battle pass we paid for, has to be just…picked apart with not everything in that set there.

The biggest issue with this set is the opposite of the Mark 7, Reach’s armors have a good amount of physical parts, but there is little to no vareity for shaders on the armors outside of the basic ones of the designs of Noble teams members themselves.

Basically:

-Both sets need the majority or all of the items in their “sets” available
-Mark 7 needs a lot of tha armor pieces in its set freed up
-Mark 5 needs more of those shader options too.

I can understand some of the physical parts being, limited, or bound to their sets, like wrist gear, or armor plating that was made to fit the specific model, but shaders shouldnt be as hard to throw around.

I mean, it will take time, but at least something good should come after that 3 hour livestream we got recently.

Those are some great points. The lack of shoulder piece options on the Reach armour is quite saddening.

I disagree. It’s better. And if you like Camo you might be satisfied. But the only pink they give you had a white chest and costs $10. The only purple has no secondary. There’s no black. There are plenty white coatings, but none pure white, and all behind a paywall. In every past Halo since 2 we’ve had far more colors for our armor, so I’m not going to be on board with saying MK VII has a good amount of shaders.

I’d have bought the cat ears today if I knew I’d be able to use them on whatever core or helmet I ended up liking. But as the system is right now, I just can’t justify the money.

I can only hope that the core restrictions get removed and that it goes up for sale again after that’s happened.

I’m tempted to buy them with the expectation that they will become cross core… But that would be silly. I’ll wait also

Yeah, you can change the body type, so you can be bulky in your armour, more slim or somewhere inbetween. And then you change your voice to female.

So if you just choose body option 3 and put on a females voice, you are more slimmed down which is exactly what the female option for all the other games were. If anything you have been given more choice by choosing the body type you want and then making that a female spartan.

I don’t see the issue with this. You still play as female spartans, you can just now choose if that female is slim, average body build or muscled out.

It’s not a noticeable difference in game. The armor doesn’t fit the slimmer body. It doesn’t look feminine. And a lot of women, myself included, don’t feel represented by it. Don’t tell me I should be happy when none of the body types look feminine. You’ve got clearly male body types to represent you. The ladies should be represented too.

I do not appreciate a male telling women that he has no problem with there being no real female character option in a game. You also don’t know that the female voices don’t even work, it often uses male voice lines regardless.

It also has nothing to do with this topic so don’t butt in with irrelevant comments please. I hear it can have the thread locked.

First of all, I didn’t say I have no problem with there being no female characters. What I was getting at is the options are there to make your characters female, that’s why I couldn’t see the issue.

Yes, it isn’t done in the traditional way where you select male or female. This time they have made it where you choose a body type you prefer (which is between filled out, average or slim) and then you choose your characters voice. And there are four options for male voices and four options for female voices. Now, if some of the female lines are being delivered in a males voice, then they need to fix that. I haven’t come across it and I have seen many obvious female spartans in the game.

Now, my original comment was in response to you saying that there were no female spartan options. So I simple thought you didn’t know about the body and AI settings where you could make your character have more female characteristics. That’s why I said you can change your spartan in the Body and AI section, I was trying to help. But my attempt to do so has been completely taken out of context here. And then SuperKitty said you could only change body types, so I tried to elaborate on the options available there. If you aren’t happy with the options, then that’s a different issue. I thought what they had done was more freeing as you can now choose your body type and voice rather than being assigned a body type based on gender.

It just isn’t done in the traditional way, but I felt like it was still there and I thought you didn’t know about it based on what you said.

I am an indian man and demand they add an indian accent because I feel not represented.

But seriously, its armor. You can make the body INSIDE the armor small, average, or large. Who does this NOT represent? You just want curved armor plates? Is that what makes a woman a woman? Curves?
Interesting. Very interesting.

I understand what YandeRose means. The maximum customization that can be achieved is a man’s body (more or less thin) with a woman’s voice.
I remember Kat in Reach and it was clear that she was a woman because her hips, her shapes, were completely different.
I saw that Kat’s armor was in the battle pass and I thought for a moment that it would be a solution to equip it. But no, it has Kat’s armor but it is still the form of a man. I join the complaint.

What makes a womans body a womans body and a mans body a mans body in a game where you’re covered head to toe in armor?
Curves?
Is it the curves?
Are there women without curves?
Are curves what make you feel represented?
Wild. Also Kats armor has wider hips no?

Infact, the only people not represented (excluding voices) are dwarves and morbidly obese people. Yet here we are.
Think astronauts feel not represented cause space suits don’t have curves?

Man, it’s not that hard to understand…

It’s just the same thing as not being able to choose your skin color. Should we feel not represented because we can’t change something under the armor. I’m sure they’ll add more curvy armors for some fat $20 bills, don’t worry. The ‘curvy core’, if you will.

It mostly represents men if you look at the bodies. But if you read my other posts you’d know I would be satisfied if they at least had armor fit when using the slimme body type. As is it’s baggy. Also, the representation of women was better in past games in my opinion. It feels bad now that it’s lessened. Is that understandable? And I’ve made no demands.

You don’t get to tell women they should feel represented when they don’t. That’s kind of sexist.
