Core Gameplay - Skillful Encounters

I’m going to make a brief list of things that I feel make Halo different from other shooters, which are core elements to the gameplay which sould be reimplemented in Halo 4 after the abomination that is Reach

  • High movement speeds
  • high jump height - (Gandhi hopping - prevelant in H2/H3 but absent from Reach)
  • smart/skillful/and passive or agressive map movement based on your playstyle/the situation without the aid of pressing one button and being halfway across the map (sprint/evade)
  • Predictable weapons that allow you to fire at a given rate (no bloom)
  • Grenades that have power to them, but a small kill radius (aka no hiroshima reach nades)
  • Powerups, and the timing of said powerups. Let me create a scenario, in Halo 3 if you were playing TS on The Pit, and there were 2 people on runway going for OS off the start of the game, there was a battle, and the victor would walk away with the OS. In reach if you are playing the MLG variant of the pit and 2 people are going for evade, its essentially taken by the person that gets their first, and they can evade away twice after getting it and be totally out of danger.
  • Powerweapons which take skill (Sniper, Grenade Launcher)
  • Skillful jumping - apparent in H3, not so much in Reach.

Any more mechanics you can think of that promotes smart decision making and skillful play post here.

nice post. we can only hope.

Love to see this style of Halo return. Here’s to hoping.

You covered a lot. I really miss crouch jumping… T_T

Ghandi Hopping was a favorite of mine. No better feeling than being down 2-3 shots and ghand hopping and getting a nice four shot to stay alive.

God you make me miss the br play in halo 3… Dmr battles were never intense in reach… you either jetpacked for advantage, ran away, ran in for a beatdown or just strait won / lost… people didnt even think about tactics like strafing or ghandiing in reach… the skill gap was diminished.

Everything.

I even think the BR takes more skill than the DMR. The RoF for the DMR is rediculous, and with the BR even though its a 3 shot burst, with hitscan you will have to keep your reticle on their head even longer for those 3 burst shots to connect.
