Copy and Paste, Halo 5's Multiplayer Maps

I’m curious to know if anyone else is frustrated with the lack of diversity in the multiplayer maps. It appears that there are about 3 original maps that have just been copied and rearranged numerous times to inflate the amount of maps. Add a different color light, a few plants, and you’ve got your next map!

I get a little disappointed when every DLC update promises a new map or two, only to find out its just a new arrangement. The maps are so boring compared to maps of older Halo’s. It seems almost as if they are reconciling giving it to us for free. Honestly, I’d rather pay a little money to get new original maps than get stuck with these lazy mix ups over and over again.

And what is up with all of the BTB maps being forged? It makes me feel like I’m playing on Halo 2 graphics again. All I want it some real maps, something genuinely fresh that doesn’t feel like a quick cop out.

Anyone else feel this way, or do you like the rearrangements?

As long as they play different who cares

Its my number 1 complaint about Halo 5, maps are the main course of the game and while i like the map designs the visual variety is sorely lacking. They dont feel organic at all.

What? lol, of course we care, otherwise we’d just be playing with blocks. Form and Function are equally important.

Same here. I’m also extremely disappointed by the BTB Maps. We need big maps like in H3 or Reach.

That’s like saying, “Who cares if this clothing store selling hundreds of shirts that are all exactly the same color? As long as they have t-shirts, long sleeves and tank tops, why does it matter?” That store would go out of business pretty -Yoinking!- fast.

It’s boring to look at the same thing over and over, and if it’s boring to even look at, it’s harder to want to play. People like variety. How is this news to anyone?

The maps play fluently and great but -Yoink- they look lazy as hell, they just change some assets in it and there “new map”.

you know when I first heard that they were gonna make maps come free in the update I was excited, but man these maps are just plain lazy.

Plaza and overgrowth look/play nothing alike. Fathom and Riptide have almost nothing in common. People think remixes are bad blatantly cause of Truth/Regret and Eden/Empire.

This guy gets it.

I mean if you actually understood what remixes meant all it is different pathing and ways to approach the map, the base layout is the same if you actually notice what goes where. Its lazyness overall to have a remix to begin with, make an entire different map.

They just wanted to follow up on Truth/Regret and Eden/Empire. Ofcourse I know what a remixed map is, but that doesn’t mean that it is played as a whole new map. How Plaza is open and has a sniper, Overgrowth is Close quarter with a shotgun and sword. It are two completely different maps.

No it’s not like that at all. All the maps have different feels, looks, and playstyles. It’s so ignorant to call anything of the maps a copy pasta. They all took time, thought, artwork, testing, and more testing.

So sick of seeing this thread.

And they probably only have forge maps for btb cause they figured warzone would take its place. Which makes sense cause it’s bigger and better than btb has ever been. They probably saw that players still wanted 8v8 so they did what they could to get that playlist out asap. Now that it’s been a few months and it’s obvious the community will always be complaining they probably aren’t conscerned with getting anything else out ASAP cause what’s the point.

I don’t really get the point of remixes.

Truth/Regret and Eden/Empire are pretty lazy. My assumption is they just whipped up some maps for the beta to see what people preferred, then kept both.

Plaza/Overgrowth are extremely different in art design and layout, sharing only a few rooms here and there. So different it begs the question “Why didn’t they just go the full mile and make them completely different in every way?” Riptide and Fathom are also significantly different, though the visuals are similar in some aspects.

One thing that does annoy me though is the visual direction of most of the maps. Not only are they almost exclusively human maps, but they’re human maps that share the same visuals.

They have the same assets, the same metallic , round shapes on every map, the same red and blue bases on every map. Where is something like Sanctuary, or warlock, or Zenzibar, or Ivory tower, maps with rocks, concrete, and natural formations, like Ghost Town. Hell even Battle of Noctus that is right in the middle of the city is filled with metal assets and planks instead of buildings made of concrete and glass.

I understand what you’re saying. Like they are using the same pallet of items for every map they create, like the post above said, they only create human maps. I would love to see a map based around the Sanghelios planet, that map was one of my favourites of the campaign.

Halo Reach recycled more Mp maps than 5 has so far, at least the remixes play differently unlike the copied campaign maps.

It’s only Eden/Empire that I have struggles with… same size, same assets, etc. Wonder if they could do something with the lighting to make it more obvious which map you are on?

Truth and Regret are obviously similar in that they are circular covenant maps… but they play very differently.

Overgrowth is nothing like Plaza… and it looks like Riptide will be similarly different to Fathom. In this regard I have nothing against “remixes”.

Overall I think we have a nice little collection of maps… all of which promote different types of play. Importantly they all seem to encourage movement around the map… we don’t seem to have the battle of two towers that maps like Lockout always seem to degenerate into.

Halo Reach made Multiplayer maps then incorporated those maps into the Campaign.

Ripping out random pieces of the Campaign would make no sense.

While I do actually like the maps, I still think it’s somewhat lazy on 343’s part. I know stuff is coming, I just want it to come faster.

Op should have wrote his opinion on one of the other countless threads that voices this topic.

As as for the argument that they make only “human” themed maps. Have you played coliseum? Regret? Truth? They don’t feel very human to me. Id love more variety, but it’s not true to make that above statement.

You must be on drugs or some -Yoink-. Every single map play differently from eachother
EVERY SINGLE ONE and i know so because i stuided every single one for HCS. The only things that are the same is the asthetics. Thats it. Dont get me wrong i hate regret and overgroth has bad weaopns but im.mot ganna sit here and say they are the same
