Conversion

Not sure if this has already been suggested, but it needs to be.

It’s a gametype by The Halo Forge Epidemic that plays similarly to Invasion, with pre-set loadouts, asymmetrical warfare, and progressive unlocks.

No mods. Everything is built in vanilla Halo via clever use of the Extraction gametype.

Here you can see a full round of offensive gameplay on Firebase, one of two maps THFE has released alongside the gametype.

Looks cool, and on a side note, I finally get to see what Halo looks like at 60 frames.

It looks really nice, not sure if it supports 16 players but I don’t see why not, and if so, I don’t see why it can’t make its way in into BTS.

I just played it yesterday with 16 players and it worked fantastically. It definitely requires a lot of teamwork and strategy, and would be an amazing addition to Halo 4’s matchmaking.

I really hope 343i is keeping an eye on this gametype, but it’s the kind of objective gameplay Halo 4 needs.

I’d like to see it get at least 2 more maps first before adding it to MM, although the current pool may work if it just gets added to a playlist instead.

It seems like a quality gamemode, and if we can only start off with 2 maps, oh well. 343 could always add another one or two in later.

Could be hard to fit into a playlist though.

It’d be a good gametype for Big Team Skirmish to add more variety to that playlist

That would be good.

Updated with Firebase commentary video.

Soooooo, can we haz in Matchmaking?

This is remarkably reminiscent of Team Fortress 2’s Attack/Defense gametype. TF2 has two variants of it, both played on long stretched, linear maps.

The first is where there are five conversion points and both teams try to push the other team back in their base, ultimately converting all 5 points to their own team’s color. There is only one point that can be converted at all times: your team cannot just sneak past the point that is contested to convert a point nearer to the enemy base.

A second variant pretty much works exactly like how it plays in the video. The attacking team has to convert as much points as possible. The defenders can only defend and stop the enemy team from getting more conversions than they did in their attacking round. The only difference between here and TF2 is that the actual conversion itsself is done by arming an extraction point, whereas in team fortress it functions like it did for territories; the converter retains the ability to fire his weapons. Another difference is how the time limit is handled: you receive additional time for each point arm. But that is a thing that must be balanced.

Attack/defense is one of the most popular gametypes in TF2 because it is simple, yet can be very competitive and fun. I’m more of a fan for the first variant, where you coordinate attack and defense at the same time. It’s a little more difficult playing attack and defense at the same time and gives more variety within the game itsself. It also keeps games short, as Halo matches are only about 10 minutes long in general.

This attack/defense is a neat mix of territories, extraction and dominion and would be a great addition (or replacement?..) for Halo 5!

looks great, wish Defenders could only stop the extraction, instead of converting it and even getting a point themselves. it sorta seems like a long version of extraction with just the initial point being able to be extracted by attackers.

but the positives:
-Great class distinctions
-Assym maps
-Progressive spawns/vehicles

It’d be great if this entered BTB Skirmish, or a joint playlist with Dominion.

At last, a gametype that features alternating offense and defense! I’ve been waiting for this.

Now, if only we could get 1-Flag CTF…

1-flag CTF is possible but it is a pain to forge maps for it, so I doubt we will get it anytime soon.

Looks good! Fingers crossed it will be implemented in to BTB Skirmish soon.
