Controls Hit-or-Miss, Clunky, Sluggish...

I am having some trouble with the controls. I find that sometimes when I press X to issue a command, the units don’t do it. It happens frequently enough that it’s interfering with my ability to multitask. (which is pretty critical in this game) I find myself issuing double-commands just to make sure they actually do what I told them to do the first time. It’s bothersome to say the least.

Also, when units are assigned to a garrison, it would be nice if there was some type of visual cue (similar to the blue arrow touching the ground on a move command) that the garrison command has been accepted. Halo Wars 1 had this down pretty well.

Am I alone? Is anyone else having problems with issuing a command and having your unit or units ignore that command and do nothing?

Also, can anything be done about how sluggish the controls feel? I’m a veteran HW1 player, and I love most of the changes in this sequel, but the fact that the controls feel sluggish, clunky, unreliable, and hit-or-miss is ruining the experience for me… HW1 controls were just so dang smooth in comparison. Pressing RT to cycle through the unit types takes for-freaking-ever… as just one example.

I agree with everything that you have said. Fix the sluggish controls and the random disconnects, and maybe the game will actually become playable.

I started a controls thread in the support forum. The RT cycle is very sluggish.

You can’t bind any controls to mouse buttons either.

-slams desk- THANK YOU! I’m a HW1 veteran as well and tired of the slow controls in this game. It’s just ruining the experience. I’ve been complaining about this issue for the longest time as well! Sad thing is, I don’t think this “slow” feature when cycling through units will ever be addressed, which SUCKS!

I like the diversity of units, I like that they’ve kinda stepped it up and taken the game to a new level… but at what cost? They didn’t even get the basic game mechanics polished first… Make the controls feel more fluid and smooth like the original, THEN take the game to the next level. Don’t leave the basic game mechanics in the lurch in a mad scramble for expansion.

It does seem that HW2 is heavily relied on the rock, papers, scissors aspect for the first one was all about heavy units, grizzly’s, vultures, and scarabs.
