This is so incredibly aggravating, especially when you have to do it for each individual game on PC.

This was happening to me when H2A frist came out weeks ago, hasn’t happen since.
STILL is happening to me…
I wonder if the directory where the .cfg file is written to is protected. Can you check if you have full permissions for the dir where Halo is installed? Can you run the ‘check integrity of game files’ and test?

I uninstalled since making this post. But thanks for the tip, I’ll look into it next time I install.

I assume the re-install fixed it? This would suggest that the permissions were set OK but some file may have been corrupted.

I haven’t reinstalled yet, but no that didn’t happen last time. I had experienced this issue before installing the game again. Having to constantly reset controls reminded me why I uninstalled.
Could it be related to me downloading the MS store version of the game? I did that at one point to play Halo 2 Anniversary, because I have gamepass.

Having different versions could only be a problem if these control files are stored in some unified directory between Steam and MS. So when the game launches it checks the integrity of file and if it doesn’t recognize anything it could be resetting it to the default. Once again, that is assuming the file is in a shared directory.
Could be worth trying to find that file (assuming its an .ini or a .cfg) and making a copy of it so you can just C&P it when needed)

I’m having the same issue with the MS store Halo 3 public flight rn. I’m installing the Steam version (of the public flight) rn, so I’ll be able to verify the integrity of the files when it’s installed.

Its possible you may not see this issue in the Steam version. Fingers crossed.

Unfortunately not, after installing the flight and changing the controls, the controls were reset to default after I launched the game again. Verifying integrity of game files didn’t solve the issue either. I’ll submit a support ticket for this issue on the Insider support site.

Okay, most likely some sort issue with saving the config files in temp.
