Controlling the recoil

So instead of Bloom we get Recoil, which is great news for me at least. I hated the bloom, great idea on paper but the randomness wasn’t worth it.

Anyway, I’ve read that it will be controllable and the only way I can think of it being controllable is by either slowing down your rate of fire or stopping entirely to align your gun again. This to me sounds like a lot of how the Bloom was supposed to work.

Am I thinking this wrong? Do you any of you guys have any ideas how this recoil will be tamed and controlled when we’re in our BR duels?

You aim down as you shoot…?

This is so obvious I’m certain that I’m not understanding your question properly.

It’s like the smg in halo 2. Just hold down on the right thumbs tick while firing. You’ll find a sweet spot.

LoL I don’t even remember using the SMG in H2. I was a BR man all the way. I suppose I’ll just have to see how it plays. I just really hope there is ZER0 randomness when firing a weapon. The only Luck that should be in Halo is being at the right place at the right time.

There will probably still be some randomness as in all the Halo games. The bullets don’t always hit the center of the reticle. And they said with the BR that the first bullet will be accurate, the second a little less, and the third a little less, like Halo 3. Which is what keeps the BR from being better than the DMR at long range.

Pfft, if you want real skill with recoil control go play Battlefield 3…

umm dude bloom is recoil.

> umm dude bloom is recoil.

Incorrect. Bloom is random, recoil is not.

For a lot of people that didn’t know, Halo 3’s BR had RECOIL. I know, I know, It was so unnoticeable that nobody thought of it. Don’t believe me? Play Halo 3 and notice how it’s better than bloom a hundred times over.

so ya its the same thing. just a different name.

No… Bloom makes your shots shoot randomly inside your recoil, so you could hit or completely miss.

Recoil makes your gun go up depending on how you shoot. It is not random and goes up the exact same amount on the screen every time you shoot another bullet. It is completely controlled and can be mastered in a few minutes/hours of playtime, unlike bloom which can never be mastered because humans are not psychic.

Bloom is the reticule expanding and making your bullet fire “random”.

Recoil is you reticule kicking upwards but still just as accurate.

One involves lowering your rate of fire for accuracy and the other has to moving the thumbstick to keep the reticule in place

And one grants the gift of eternal youth. Which one you ask? I SHALL NEVER TELL!!!

It’s only better if you want BR only fights. Bloom is better for weapon balance, just needs better implementation. There’s plenty of games that have bloom and work because of it. Go play Gears of War 3, or Space Marine.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I think a super soldier in powered battle armor that can flip jeeps with one hand could hold a 5.56mm gun still (SMG iirc) But I understand it is a game mechanic.

That said recoil is way better than bloom. You can make the recoil work for you by aiming slightly below the head and let the 3 round burst “climb” up and at least one bullet would hit. Perfect for grunts. The bloom mechanic is supposed to make you slow down and pace your shots, but that doesn’t always work. Where if you know how to hold the stick to combat recoil you can be plenty accurate even firing as fast as you can.

Bloom adds randomness to the game. You don’t know who will win if both players shoot the exact same amount of bullets at the same speed as each other, even though nobody did anything better than the other. With recoil both players shoot the exact same amount of bullets and both die because they did the exact same thing.

Bloom does not work for anything except for adding realism. But dividing player skill takes priority over realism in video games.

Besides, Weapon balance can be accomplished by damage/second, and many other things that aren’t random, but fixed to allow fair battles and not unfair lucky wins.

More like pacing your shots and using short, controlled bursts.
