Controller players, what buttons do you guys use to zoom?

Bumper jumper feels really nice to me on a normal controller.

If I had paddles I’d map ping and equipment to them. Hate how I have to take my hands off the sticks for them.

Do you have it set to hold to crouch?

I have it set to press but maybe that’s not really necessary any more since there’s less need for crouch jumping.

I’d use it for to drop my weapon for sure. (Don’t accidentally drop a weapon is LSS - you can’t pick it up again.)

Maybe I should give bumper jumper a shot.

I have hold to crouch for a bunch of reasons but any time you mantle jump you can usually skip the animation by crouch jumping. Works a treat, beat spot is to grab OS on Live Fire.

It’s all about what you’re comfortable with tbh dude but the day I got used to playing with bumper jumper the day I became a better Halo player.

Elite2 controller. Used to have zoom on LT but having a quick responsive melee is far more important so assigned melee to LT and zoom to LB.

Everything else is pretty standard with grenades on RB, and have jump, slide and sprint assigned to rear paddles.

I actually do right now, but I have actually been considering switching to toggle for a while. It’s hard to change muscle memory, though, and I am used to holding crouch since pretty much Halo CE.

toggle zoom is just as inferior as toggle crouch and keeping zoom on the thumbstick requires it to be toggled.

If you have aim on the trigger it can be hold to aim which will rescope you when get flinched while held, superior in every way.

I play with the bumper jumper control layout, so I use right stick to zoom.

So i came up with a control scheme to allow for zooming not on the right stick and it closely resembles oldee Halos. You should try it and see if it helps.

Here is the link to my waypoint post:

Hope this helps.

Wait, what?
Is that seriously in the game?
That must be a bug that wasn’t fixed yet. Even in H5G, which had literal ADS, this was removed after the beta.

Scope: Right stick
Sprint: Left stick
Jump: Left trigger
Shoot: Right trigger
Grenade: Right bumper
Equipment: Left bumper
Crouch: A
Melee: B
Reload: X
Switch: Y

Right stick, 120 fov. Just the way God intended.
Jokes aside, I don’t zoom in much, only if fighting at long range. Just pick whatever feels right to you. Personally I’m shocked that so many people aren’t using 120 fov, but it seems to work for them.

Check it out and convert to helljumper

left trigger if at all

I would recommend a elite controller. It might take a bit to used to using the extra buttons. However it has improve my gameplay across multiple games.

I mean, I won’t, because as I said, aiming on LT literally hurts my hand.
But it’s not just restricted to Helljumper anyways, I just observed the same behaviour when using hold to zoom on the sticks.
Thanks for the information, I just submitted a bug report on this to Halo support for them to fix it, as it’s a clear inconsistency between control schemes, giving “hold to zoom” an unfair advantage over “toggle zoom”.

I use the RS, toggle zoom, and FOV of 102. I’d recommend learning where the shots line up inside your reticle so that when you get descoped, you can still reliably hip-fire from a distance.

Never said it was restricted to helljumper, just implied helljumper is the best control scheme, because it is. Pretty sure with all the unfair advantages this game has this was on purpose, especially considering player collision was removed to ease frustration. Hold to zoom still has an advantage either way because its impossible to descope yourself because you know what your zoom state is supposed to be vs toggle leaving you blind.

Seems tame compared to MK users spamming sidekick with the mousewheel. Maybe you should report that as a bug too.

Am I right in thinking you flinch out so reticule spasms and then back in immediately with this method?

I don’t see the advantage if that’s the case as you can adjust after flinch then zoom back in to be on the target quicker than if you are zoomed in with flinch as takes longer for reticule to travel in zoom.
