Controller players, what buttons do you guys use to zoom?

I seem to be outscopes many times long distances and I’m wondering if its because of my aimt reflex. I use right analog stick to zoom to reconcile past Halo titles, but I’m curious if players can aim faster than me because they have theirs on LT. Or, what other buttons do you use to zoom? Im also curious ifits my FOV being a problem as well.

I’ve been using left trigger zoom on all modern shooters, right stick seems dated for that now.

I still stick with clicking in the right analog stick. I used to have a problem with bad thumb twitching that leads to accidentally unzooming immediately after I fire a shot with the Sniper Rifle but I think I’m over it now :stuck_out_tongue:

Right stick.

Most guns don’t have or really need zoom. And de-scoping doesn’t bother me since I’ve been conditioned to be decent at hip-firing from older halos.

Right stick for zoom.
84 FoV (90 for campaign)

I use the left trigger and my FOV is at 97ish.

Is that a visual thing… a sense of speed thing… or better aim?

I wanted Infinite to feel like the previous games. Halo 5 had a FoV of 78. It seems really low, but that’s what it was.

I bumped it to 90 for campaign as some of the corridors felt really narrow and claustrophobic at 84.

Wow. Was it that low?

What was H3? That was often criticised for being the cause of H3 feeling so slow.

Google tells me 70.

I think I automatically put my FOV up to max (on XSX) when I first played the game.

I’ve since dropped it back to 100 or so… and definitely feel aiming / shooting is better.

Might try a little lower… but probably not quite as low as you

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

I have an Elite II controller (best purchase ever). I put zoom on one of the paddles. That way I can use it without taking my thumbs off the sticks. It also means I can I have it as hold to zoom - which I find useful for quick peeking.

I couldn’t stand the FoV in Halo 3. All the rooms and corridors felt way too small. Campaign for whatever reason seemed fine but once I got into multiplayer I couldn’t deal. At that time I had no idea what it was but I knew it didn’t feel right.

Reach solved this problem by increasing the FoV to 78, which is where it’s been ever since by default.

When Infinite first came out I experimented with FoV settings between 100-120. Nothing felt right to me, so I turned to Google. That’s when I started trying lower FoV settings and things started to feel like Halo again.

I use right stick to zoom, play on 120 FOV. When I’m being descoped I only zoom back in sometimes, it’s situational.

Am an Onyx player and my advice would be to use whatever is most comfortable for you. There’s no one size fits all.

I use the left trigger at 110FOV

Right joystick, 90-something FOV. Legacy control scheme.

I don’t zoom. I just have a magnifying glass taped to my TV. Got the idea from an Overwatch meme.

Right stick.

I f’in hate zoom on LT.
Hated it in every single shooter I’ve ever played that had it. Borderlands, Metro, you name it.
My left hand cramps from having to hold the left trigger so often/long when I want to aim. Like, literally, not an exaggeration, I’m having pain in my left hand from LT-aiming.
I was so glad when the first Infinite preview was release and they finally had a decent control scheme as the default again, but they once again backpedaled for the final release. At least there are not only multiple control schemes but also the option to manually customize buttons.

If you use the sticks for zoom, what do you use for crouch?

I need to come up with something better or get a controller with paddles.

Couch - B
Nades - LT
Punch - RB
Equipment - LB

The stick?

Default Halo controls: LS crouch, RS zoom, LT grenades

I use LT for zoom, RS for melee. Feel like I need to upgrade controller to Elite 2 for maximum sliding.
