Controller layout

One of the things that Halo 5 challenged me on was the gameplay mechanics in regards to controller settings or layout. Do you all believe there will be a return to form with Halo Infinite in terms of how the player controls Master Chief? Like Halo 1-3

Honorable Mention Issue: Something that bothered me about Halo 3 was Chief moved like a snail. This was extremely noticeable in multiplayer. Do you think 343 industries can pace Chief’s movement speed perfectly like they did in Halo CE or even 2? Without Sprint?

I absolutely believe 343i can pace the Master Chief well without Sprint. Some of the best well-paced shooters come without Sprint. And in regards to controller layout, Recon all the way! Every default controller scheme since Halo Reach felt completely off. Classic CE and 2 had great controller schemes, but Halo 3 perfected it. All Halo games should be designed around the Recon scheme IMO with options to change from there.

I’m wondering how I’m gonna map my controls cause most of it will just be “Recon” settings. Though I don’t know how I’m gonna map “sprint” or “slide” and how I’m gonna fit in “crouch”. I’m gonna use the “X” button for “grenade-switch” since Reach did it well. Do you think there’ll be bindings for console players?

343 has confirmed that all controller buttons are fully rebindable so you can change any button to any action you want to! In terms of the player speed while walking or sprinting it will be hard to say how it will feel until we get a chance to play. The sprint does not look markedly faster than normal speed though

Like the post above mentions - 343i have said many times that your keyboard & controller will be fully customisable for button layouts. You can make any button do whatever you like.

If you have a Elite Controller you’ll have even more control over button customisation too.

That’s great to know. Get to personalise my own personal bumper jumper.

Unsc weapons saw railgun and Spartan laser. Plus mantis and gauss warthog the m68 version

yes I think the gameplay will be very steep in halo infinte, we should not be afraid for that.

What I really want to know is how many actions can one button do? Say if I want to bind two or three actions to a button (just for an example).

Just out of interest… what button combos are you think of relevant to Halo?

The Elite 2 controller allows a couple of specific combos… like I can take a screenshot or record a video with one button press (as opposed to being taken out of the game by pressing the big X button).

With the elite controller you can set a paddle to “shift”. This means that when shift is pressed a secondary action programmed to that button becomes available. So far you can set 2 actions to a single button with this mechanic.

In all honesty this doesn’t really seem that important with Halo since the controls aren’t that complicated but in H5 there is a mechanic called the “spring jump” in which you can jump higher if you press jump at the exact moment you are rising from a crouched position. That becomes alot easier if you assign crouch to a button with as secondary jump (when you are crouched you just press shift to activate the jump function and it automatically becomes the spring jump).

I guess the same mechanic could be used for BXR/BXB in H2 and who knows what kind of combo’s will surface in Infinite. Not worth it too buy an elite for however in my opinion

For my controller layout (this might be popular idk):
Zoom and Shoot but with just A and LB swapped to make it more like Bump Jump

What I’m saying is I want to keep sprint on the left joystick but I also want to crouch as well. It doesn’t sound like it’s possible but I’d like to see if I can try it. I want to keep most other things to “Recon” settings. I have a series S controller now but it sounds like the elite series is more suited to customization.
