Controller Layout Observation from bulletin

Looking at the new controller layouts it seems like stealth is taking a back seat to all the new hawtness. Crouch has been relegated to one of the most annoying buttons to use (the red B button).

This signifies to me that crouch has less importance in this game. AA’s like Promethean Vision gave me the first inkling of this.

I truly hope that default matchmaking retains the crouch stealth elements but I’m thinking it’s on its way out. Seems with the layouts that 343i know or have built their gameplay more around the AA’s & specialisations than elements such as crouching stealth.

This also implies that maps, slayer and objective will have been designed with a similar focus. I’m especially hoping objective keeps the crouch elements and map routes that make it effective.

What do you think?

Don’t use default then. Crouch is on left stick in some of the other layouts.

It seems like they’re trying to mix them up more so there’s ones that suit all different play types. To me it seems like it’s a Jack of all trades, master of none. Every scheme seems to lean towards a certain play style without perfecting it.

Trouble is in all their other layouts then something else becomes ugly to use. Reload on B is good but then other sacrifices are made.

Why couldn’t they just provide controller/button mapping with preset layouts, seems silly.

So far I would agree with your comments, seems like they have too much to fit into the controller now.

Yes, but even more so I wonder why they put sprint on the LS to begin with. This is just the most annoying place to put sprint, I don’t see why most shooters put it there.

sure, I can switch to recon, but I won’t have the superior X-action button that I prefer.

This seriously will be the first halo game in which I don’t like the controls and will have to adapt…

BUMPER JUMPER !

HAD NO WORRIES

Recon is almost Halo 3’s default settings, you telling me you have a problem with that layout?

343 changed Bumper Jumper to exactly how i wanted it. BJ news is best Halo4 news yet.

At the time of Halo 3 I had no issue. After playing Reach and the melee getting more into the game it became apparent how much use your melee button gets.

Melee timing is very important, especially in close quarters, and when playing from Australia I’m already at a disadvantage for melee timings. Having a button that far away for melee is a big difference for me.

Further is the strafe and player movement speed is as MLG and event hands on players describe then crouch in the middle of BR/DMR/ligh rifle battles is going to be important again. So crouch is not just for stealth, it will also be for effective headshot dodging.

Ok well then bumper jumper is near perfection, that’s the one I’ll be using.

Bumper Jumper is the only one that you need. Get used to using BJ and your game will almost certainly improve. Also, it keeps the melee, crouch, zoom, etc where you would expect.

Only trouble with BJ is sprint being on the buttons. I use sprint a lot, even in Reach I either use Sprint or depending on map Jetpack. That’s all I use.

I need a third bumper button

I was impressed with bumper jumper. Months ago I contemplated how would the schemes work with the addition of the extra button needed as sprint was now permanent. Now the way bumper jumper is setup is the way I thought it would work best. So I really have nothing to argue about when it comes to controller layout.

It certainly is my preference for now as well, sprint is my only concern with BJ.
