Controller Issues

Why is it that the wired Xbox 360 controllers are so unreliable? I received one as a gift a few years ago - fully licensed and purchased brand new - which only lasted a year and now, with a used one, I’m dealing with the exact same issue again where it’ll lose its connection even if the wire is only wiggled a little bit. I’ve also experienced this issue with at least one other controller too.

I’ve never had issues with wired controllers other than with Xbox consoles, so what’s the deal? This controller worked flawlessly up until today and nothing’s happened in between yesterday and today which should’ve caused damage. I use the controller on my Xbox and PC so it gets unplugged and plugged back in more than someone normally would if they were only using it for one or the other, but that shouldn’t do it as - at least with my Xbox - it’s always powered down first.

I don’t like wireless Xbox 360 controllers due to having to make sure they either have good batteries or are fully charged and I also dislike how bulky the battery pack is as it doesn’t leave much finger room, but I’m going to have to put up with them at this point as I can’t trust wired ones anymore and have zero interest in the Xbox One at this point.

While this is mostly just me venting, I do have to ask the following: how many wired controllers have failed on you?

I’ve had a wired 360 controller for about 7 years and never had any problems with it. I have had to replace 3 wireless Xbox one controllers already though

It’s not just 360 controllers I’ve had issues with xbox one controllers as well. From Regular xbox one to elite controllers to scuff and other custom controllers I’ve had it to where the sticks have a small drag to them if left idle. It is probably just me because I put my controller through a lot of use but I’m never slamming it or throwing it just playing on it alot. I’ve had a handful of people tell me they have the same problem.

It may not be the controller, it may be the USB port its plugged into. I’ve got over a dozen 360’s I still use for tournament and LAN events. We used wired controllers and 99.9% of the time when a controller is messing up its because of the USB port.

Could be the wire too, cause if there’s a kink in there at all the signal gets disrupted.

That’s true as well. Its usually around the “ponytail”, the little bit at the end that connects the controller to the console.

This is also happening to me at least once a day. It’s kind of annoying.

My connection is not even loose, btw.
