Controller Interface Bug & Others

While playing CE campaign, encountered the following controller-related issues:

  1. After installing the controller software update to allow me to use my Skullcandy SLYR headset with the Microsoft headset adapter, the soundtrack occasionally stutters. The game sound effects do not seem to be interrupted. Just the music. Interruptions are always momentary. I do not know how to tell if this is an issue with the MCC or with the Microsoft adapter / software for the headset. It is definitely not a headset problem.

  2. If you remove the headset adapter from the controller while the controller is connected to the Xbox (say, for example, to try to stop the music from stuttering . . . ) the controller disconnects from the Xbox and will not reconnect. The lighted button will turn solid . . . but the Xbox will not respond to any inputs from the controller.

  3. Attempting to turn on another controller does not do anything. The second controller (and the media remote, if you have one) are just as unresponsive as the first controller.

  4. If you then attempt to re-sync the controller via Kinect, the controller remains unresponsive and the Kinect starts turning on and off at about 2 - 3 second intervals, with an error message in the upper-right corner of the display from the Xbox saying “Kinect is unplugged” every time the Kinect turns off. Attempting to re-sync using the console sync button is just as ineffective (but does not cause Kinect to repeatedly cycle power).

  5. Soft restarting the console does not work.

  6. To resolve, you must reboot the console (which I did by removing it from the power source so it needs to reload the operating system). Simply turning the console off and on again does not work.

  7. All of the above was repeated every time I tested it . . . so it does not appear to be an intermittent issue.

Definitely MCC:

  1. When setting the Halo 4 loadouts, updating the loadout name does not work properly. For the first loadout slot, when you type in the new name and hit done, the correct name appears. When you attempt to change the name for any other loadout slot, the new name does not take until the 3rd time you type it in. I repeated this many times.

  2. One time got stuck at the initial loading screen that required a hard reboot.

  3. When switching weapons in the CE campaign, if you had pressed the “fire weapon” trigger prior to switching (i.e., you ran out of ammo on the primary weapon and tried to fire with no rounds left), the weapon you switch to immediately fires after the switch animation is complete. This does not always happen - but it happens a lot. I do not know if this is CE-specific, as the CE campaign is the only play mode I’ve tried so far.

This is how our complaints should come in like, constructive complaints!

Do you have the latest firmware for the controller? I didn’t know that there was a second firmware update that came out this past April! I downloaded the first one when I got my chat adapter back in March 2014. I was having some problems with game chat in AW and I decided on a whim to see if I needed to update my controller. Sure enough there was a newer firmware update and it fixed my chat problem. Give this a try if you haven’t yet. Wish the system would notify you if there’s a new firmware available!!

FYI: The latest firmware for the controller is 1.1.2228.0

Unfortunately, yes. I applied the latest update before all of the above occurred.

A similar problem is noted here.
