Controller exposed - Video

It was just one of those things posted when people would say their aim assist randomly stops working in fights, and it appears to happen specifically when jumping or shields popped, so if you can test those we know for sure, and we can always use your videos as proof. If true, desync netcode might play a role in false positives when shields should be popped but aren’t, but you lose aim assist anyway

Such a bummer I felt like I was finally getting good again at Halo playing MCC with my friends. Diving into this game I thought the aim assist in H3 was detrimental to my playing; holy crap was I wrong. In Infinite it gets in my way or doesn’t work when it should so much more often I’m completely flabbergasted. In a BR duel all I need to do is strafe like crazy and the aim assist does the work for me, other times the aim assist will desync and fail to track, so no matter how hard I try to land a shot, the enemy on my screen isn’t where the server thinks they are. OR it’s potentially the glitch where when your shields are broken aim assist turns off and you’re doomed. Playing some BTB and an enemy vehicle flying across my FOV will pull my aim completely off my previous target and track the Warthog, Chopper, etc. even more extremely than it ever did for me in H3.

I didn’t even think about how desync could affect aim assist. Like if desync says the player is in a completely different location than where you’re aiming then you wouldn’t get aim assist on them client side. That’s so crazy to think. This game is a total mess.

Yeah! There was a video, i’ll find the link.

A player is on Behemoth trying to snipe from one tower to the other and his aim assist is going crazy following the enemy but the enemy is to the right of the player’s crosshair!

Edit: video is gone. dang.

Ok, well I just proved that wrong too. Video is uploading now. Also added a little surprise at the end. I get a BR perfect without using the RS while backing up and strafing my PC guy. Had to hold the controller upside down and bang the trigger on my desk.

Strafing is not effective at long range, at close range you move outside of the aim assist range very quickly so if the player isn’t aiming in the right direction of the strafe you won’t track it at all, even if you are aiming in the right direction you can under or overshoot it. The aiming isn’t as straight forward as the system doing the work, especially when your own strafe is factored in.

The main reason it exists is to allow micro adjustments that the stick is not capable of letting you do to any reliable amount, like you can easily do with a mouse. Like I said, I use both and the argument is a silly one. There will always be an issue with crossed inputs where one will have an advantage, usually it is mkb because of a higher skill ceiling. If aim assist is too strong then of course controller will have the advantage.

Based on my experience of the three games I’ve played (MCC, Splitgate and Infinite), my aim has been close to the same on both input types. Take away aim assist though and my accuracy is under 50% of that of mouse and keyboard.

Lol that’s so crazy. Aim assist tracking what would essentially be an invisible player client side. Yikes.

It’s why all I do if I ever play now is bot matches and maybe some challenges. Even if the bot matches screw with my MMR for when I do play with matchmaking seriously it’s with friends that severely outrank me anyways lol

I’ve never advocated for completely taking away aim assist.

I have a question about the PC-side after 22:00. At this part of the video you grab the mouse, wiggle it, and then continue. Later at 23:25 when you move the PC side back and forth it stops tracking. When you moved the PC side back and forth are you using the controller or the keyboard?

There have been a few complaints about how PC players sometimes don’t have any aim-assist while using a controller. Maybe this is caused by the mouse being moved during the game?

At that part I was using mouse. Should of explained but I wanted to show the difference between the crosshair placement with and without aim assist.

I meant the reverse situation. It stopped working for the right side of the screen because that “player’s” shields were down. You crossed the reticle and it even turned red but there was no auto aim. While yours continued to work because your shields were up.

The perfect at the end… You literally just strafed inside of the reticule lmao, couldn’t even see it moving really. Strafing doesn’t work at that range.

Make a video but with the Spartans much closer together.

Thats not exactly the point of the showcase. The point is to show that the aim assist is very strong, and putting M&K players against it simply isn’t fair.

Yeah, it was hard to do. Was just trying. If it was reversed PC wouldn’t of got a perfect, even with that little bit of strafing.

Thanks for the video man, interesting to see. It’s good to see that there isn’t a clear advantage, at least in regard to aim assist.

Lest we forget MKB players can turn infinitely (pardon my stupid pun) faster and make inputs far faster than controller players.

Beautiful. You even proved how easy perfects are. Every ranked controller match, everyone has tons of perfect medals. In m&k, almost none from anyone if any. If you ever have Chefs Kiss challenge, 5 perfects, just use controller. Save yourself the struggle.

With the distance of the strafe I actually think there’s a good chance you would have on mouse you know.

But yeah I think if you want to really delve into the aim assist do it much closer together.
