Controller Button Layout

All these new playlists, no Halo 6 and 343i still can’t give us a new controller button layout?

I tried using the new layouts where the Left Trigger is used as the Smart-Link, but everytime I jump and zoom, I start stabilizing, which is so annoying. Not only does it mess up your aim when using the sniper, but it leaves you vulnerable and an open target.

Then there’s the right joystick… can we please get a button layout where the melee button is not right next to the firing button and the crouching button is not located in any of the joysticks? This actually wouldn’t be a problem if i was able to toggle crouch and still be able to “fly” (thrust + slide) and if for some reason the high jumps that require you to stabilize weren’t that much harder to do while you have toggle crouch.

Oh, the struggles.

  • A frustrated Halo player.

P.S. I only bring this up because I’m sure I’m not the only person who is having this issue and it is very irritating when you are trying to better and/or find yourself, which is what I’m doing right now.

You can turn off auto stabilize. As one who likes to jump a lot it was one of the first things I did in Halo 5.

Bumper Jumper feels right to me. Everything is where I want it to be.

I have it off, but it’s problematic when both of your zoom and stabilizing buttons are used for the same thing…

I used to use Bumper Jumper, but I didn’t like it for the reasons mentioned above.

Right now, I’m back to using the Halo 4 layout, but my problem is that the Firing button and Melee button are so close together. I’m sure that I’ll figure something out and have it mastered soon, though. I guess I was just venting…

sigh

I think every game should have button mapping but there’s always complications.

I agree with you on the first part. I’ve actually played games with customizable controller layouts and never had any problems, so I’m really not sure what you mean…

i mean for the developers

Try using a layout that feels the most natural to you. For me, Recon is perfect as it emulates the original control scheme nicely.

Elite controller… While expensive it’s worth it if you really want to get better. Being able to remap buttons is totally worth it. I use the Halo 4 layout. I remapped the crouch, grenade select and jump to paddles under the controller.
