Controller aiming on PC vs Xbox (spoiler: PC wins)

Aiming issues have been discussed alot in the past, even to the point at which 343 released an aim update adding acceleration and deadzone options and further down the line the supposed heavy aim fix, which unfortunately didn’t get rid of the problem. Now I’ve been playing Halo 5 for thousands and thousands of hours and for me heavy aim has been a persistent annoyance since I got my gaming display back in 2017. Before that I played on a lousy TV so heavy aim was hidden behind its input lag.

Anyway, I recently also put together a higher end gaming PC and for the lulz I installed Halo 5: Forge on it. After screwing around with a mouse and keyboard (which are not well implemented) I tried a controller. The game automatically had my controller settings from the server and upon my first flick of reticle I notice it. The aim is ultra snappy and responsive, it moves smoothly and consistently, unlike on the console. Even when on console heavy aim isn’t ‘on’, the aim doesn’t still feel as responsive. I started Halo 5 on Xbox and PC both and jumped my elite controller and display on both of them back and forth and the feel on the console isn’t nowhere near as good as on PC.

This makes me think that the Xbox One’s poor processor is at the root of the aim problems in Halo 5. Though even on a One X I still experience heavy aim.

So, has anyone else had the chance to test controller aiming on the PC versions and if so what is your experience? And overall do you notice anything wrong about your aim on console (that is not your fault that is)?

Some other heavy aim testing I did was on smurf accounts on console. I tested if REQs are tied to heavy aim. I made a set of smurf accounts and played one so that I kept all REQ packs that came through commendations unopened and on another account I opened them all and kept the unlocks. On yet another account I sold all unlocks I gathered and then after a while bought a huge stack of bronze packs. In the end I didn’t notice any difference between the smurfs and my actual account so I think that REQs aren’t probably tied to heavy aim. (Granted the sample size isn’t large but still.)
