Control Scheme for better Accessibility

Dear 343,

I don’t know if anyone of the 343 team actually will read this or do something with this but well, nothing ventured nothing gained.

Personally I think it’s great that 343 has added some more control schemes to Halo 4, but I was hoping 343 could patch in one more for better accessibility. I myself have a condition which causes me to have reduced strength in my hands, which is why pressing the thumb sticks all the time is very tiring for me, and becomes harder as I play longer.

Now I was happy to learn of the addition of Fishstick, which allows for zooming with LT. However, this puts Melee on the right thumb stick, which is not good as meleeing plays a huge part in CQB. That’s why I came up with the following control scheme, which in my opinion would be perfect for people like me, and for people that would like to have this control scheme for other reasons.

This is my proposal: Vortex Control Scheme
Edit: Someone pointed out switching Throw Grenade (LB) and Armor Ability (RB) could be even better, I think that would be great as well.

As you can see, the most important actions have moved to the buttons, and crouching has moved to the right thumb stick, which is better since I don’t crouch as often as I zoom or melee.

Please consider adding this to the game via a (launch day) patch. I’m sure something simple like this can be added to the game within less than an hour of work, and it could help me and a lot of other people so much.

Thanks in advance.

PS: If you support this, please reply so that this thread won’t go unnoticed

Maybe sprint should be on the top of the Dpad instead of a stick?

I have less problems with the left thumb stick than with the right one so most of the time sprint is not a problem for me in games, but it would indeed be better to have it on a separate button like in Reach. However I can’t see it working on the top of the D-pad though.

Thanks for replying anyway

I really like this control scheme, however I would make one minor and sensible change and that would be to the current location of Grenade (LB) being changed to RB where you have the armor ability.

I think moving the aggressive actions (Fire & Grenade) to one side of the controller and the passive actions (Zoom & Armor Ability) to the other side makes a lot of sense on a conscious and sub-conscious level.

Regardless, I really think that if this control scheme was in the game that it would be the one I used (abridged or not) but unfortunately I will probably have to get used to no longer being able to crouch jump or something like that with the available control schemes. Here’s hoping 343i take notice of this and toss some of us a bone.

zoom wouldn’t work on LT because snipers zoom in twice

How about we get to make custom control schemes and call it good.

That would be great as well, I don’t really mind since the most important is the removal of zoom and melee from the right stick for me. At least David Ellis has seen this thread and thanked me for the suggestion, so who knows. Maybe they’ll patch it in

I actually like this control scheme, even though it does look similar to a certain other type of shooter game (not saying anything else about it). I really like tghat zooming-in was moved to a trigger, as I never really did like having to click the thumbstick a lot of times.

And in regards to this, make it so one pull of the trigger zooms in, not a “hold”. Similar to a hold vs. toggle to crouch on the thumbstick. Two “pulls” of the LT zooms the sniper to 10x, a third snaps back to normal view.

Looks like it’s high time for a company / person to make a new Xbox Controller with extra buttons that do the same thing as other buttons but are more conveniently placed! Like hard press buttons on the back of the controller (similar to the Z button on the N64 controller) that was having a button for sprint as X and the X button on the back hard-pressable (lotsa resistance) you can sprint without taking the thumb off the Right stick.

The Razer Onza would like a word with you.

I have bought the Razer Onza because of my problems with sticks but I never use it. The triggers are very weird, I don’t like the insta-click A, B, X, Y buttons and the extra shoulderbuttons are not nicely placed.
