Hi, I was just wondering about the location of the control room on Installation 04. In Halo: Combat Evolved at the end of The Silent Cartographer, Foehammer says: “Cortana, these coordinates are underground!”. Then Cortana explains how there are “tunnels” inside the ring.
On Installation 04B (In Halo 3), the control room appears to be on the surface of the ring, and when the Master Chief activates it, a beam goes straight up to the center of the Halo. On Installation 05, the control room is also on the surface of the Halo.
So my question is: Are the control rooms on Installation 04 and 04B underground, and if so, how did Pelican and Spirit drop ships get to them?
Also, if you could keep flying up with a banshee on Assault on the Control Room, where would you end up (on the inside or outside of the Halo)?
the coordinates Cortana gave Foehammer were for a drop-off point that was in fact underground, the Control Rooms on both installations are part of a structure above ground, the rooms themselves are in a cliff wall.
The control rooms on both Halos were on the surface in the giant temple structures. You remember going through all those lifts to get to them in Halo CE don’t you?
The tunnels that were used in Halo CE were only a means of transport to get from one side of the ring to another.

Foehammer could only fly so far on her Pelican’s internal fuel tanks before reaching “bingo” fuel and needing to turn around. Those coordinates that Cortana gave her are for the point she can get them too.
Hence the LONG HIKE THROUGH COVENANT FORCES required to get to the Control Room.
