Continuity errors in the trailer?

After reviewing the cinematics of season 1 several times, I have doubts about various things shown. Doubts that I don’t know if they will be answered by 343 or will remain in limbo forever.

We can clearly see that the trailer takes place in London (Wonderful work done with the design of the city), this means that it is an invasion on earth, but when? In the year 2552 during the events of Halo 2-3 ? A possible future invasion in later years?

We can observe a covenant T-57 flying, does that make it clear to us that it is a covenant invasion or do the banished use unmodified covenant equipment?

The brutes look like a mix of Halo 3 and Halo Infinite, so it’s unclear to me if they’re Covenants or Banished. But then I see the plasma weapons they carry and it makes me wonder if it’s a more modern invasion.

The Spartans are of the new generation, it can be clearly seen in the style of their armor. Is it the way to confirm that it is an invasion of the land from before 2558?

All this has led me to think of a theory, the entire trailer takes place in the year 2558 at the same time as the Halo Infinite campaign. And the multiplayer, together with its academy, takes place years later with a leap in history to be able to give us new contexts with which to expand the campaign. If this is the latter, I would feel really happy.

If it’s just visual licensing to not work on other designs and make a canonically correct trailer, I’d be disappointed, despite seeing the good work they’ve done with the scale of the Spartans, the vehicles, etc …

The trailer seems too imply that at some point the banished have seized control of Earth most likely post H5. The infinite campaign has been confirmed to take place a few years after H5 so a lot can happen. I wonder if this is a preview of some Raid like stuff that our Spartans can engage in to reclaim colonies from the banished that is separate from the campaign.

to be honest, It would be stupid if Atriox and his banished are so strong, that they can invade earth.

Also the whole story behind Atriox lacked in many things like when Isabel said, that the covenant was not even close to him - the whole story makes nearly no sense to me.

Still, I hope there will be a good story behind all this but I wouldn’t wonder, if that trailer is just messing totally up with the timeline and in general with the lore.

I’d be disappointed if 343 continued down the Bungie path and they didn’t respect the continuity of Halo lore. I’m literally only here for the lore and continuity of Halo.

Unless this is a “art style” choice I don’t think this is a continuity error. The trailer isn’t confirmed (unless someone can link me otherwise) to take place during 2552. The battle of earth took place in Africa, and I don’t think any other Spartans were available at the time besides Chief. It has to take place post H5 which sets it between 2558-2561.

Ah, this does make me wonder if the multiplayer lore takes place before, during, or after the events of the campaign. There are a ton of implications regarding any of those. Also, a description somewhere says that the spartan training is taking place in secret, which is quite the departure from how spartan IV’s were in Halo 4 and 5. Can’t wait to find out for sure in a few months.

Sigh made this thread already and got no answer but yours took off.
It has to be battle of earth. But perhaps a different fleet invaded london/Europe than Africa and the americas/Cuba?

MkVII was odd thought it was in prototype test phase of development in 2553.
Black team would still be using Mjolnir black
And the MKVI had just been made standard few weeks or days before the battle of earth.
Its harder explain unsc inaccuracies than covenant as the storm essentially give a lore excuse for variance in their arsenal.
Feels like a halo 4 prologue situation to me.
The one fix I can think of it that is a reconstruction of Westminster in new london on a colony planet?
Unsure if those were gen1 or gen3 cores on the spartan IIs

UNHEARDCARNAGE blue team were in Cuba for the battle of earth until they went off world to onyx so other Spartans were on earth in 2552.

v I Am Legend in halo new blood there is a secret facility that trains spartan IVs
The academy seems to be a new facility for reasons explained in the book halo bad blood.

Huh I always assumed onyx happened before, vs during the battle of earth. On my initial viewing I thought it took place in 2558, but it looks like 343 is going to pull an art style card again.

Nope blue team are in Cuba fighting brutes with spikers from truths fleet they are halo 3 power armour brutes so its post schism, they go to onyx before the dreadnought and chief make it back to earth. Cause halsy isn’t sure if blue team are the last of her Spartans once she arrives on the shield world.
Now perhaps I’m wrong and please correct me if I am.
Its been a while since I read ghost of onyx. Although I must have read the book 8 to 10 times as a kid so I’m pretty sure.
Damn art style card
Theres gen 1 cores in the game no need to market the MKVII in a flashback its in mcc and on the mp cover art ffs.

Also made thread. But anyway, It does feel like a Halo 4 prologue situation all over again.

I saw about an hour after mime but wasn’t able to reply at the time and it left the front page so I was gonna let it pop back up

It’s not like equipment and vehicles just disappear, it’s not unthinkable to say the Banished were employing Covenant-era gear. Earth has also been pacified due to Cortana’s reign, so it’s entirely possible that once Cortana disappeared that the Banished took that opportunity to dominate Earth.

No worries, mine was more about ODST expansion speculation. And I saw your thread, but I guess everyone is here more now?

yet, Halo 3 ODST is meanwhile Halo 2 still happening. How do you explain their weapons?
Broken circle does it.

Except this is an art style change that I can live with. Either that, or this takes place sometime during cortanas reign. If they have an art style change. I hope they say that unless they already have a good lore reason

What do you mean?
Theres nothing to explain.
The events of odst take place during the schism.
Brutes under truth were planted in regrets fleet to make sure he wasn’t an issue but chief did that job.
The timeline also fits the events in onyx
The brutes used brute plasma weapons they are the same as halo 2s.
Odst runs between both games.
What I’m asking is how Spartans can have mjolnir on a year before the prototypes exist.

Thy have the assets for the correct armour in the game. So why use the MKVII.
Shadows of reach makes it almost impossible for this to be during the created reign.

DOES it take in London, though? All we see is a clock tower that isn’t even next to the Houses of Parliament.

EDIT: Tbh, this is kind of a smartarse answer- even if they didn’t specifically say it was London, it’s the equivalent of putting the Effiel Tower in the back of shot while someone cycles past wearing a beret and onions around their neck. They’re pretty obviously implying it’s set in London.

This is your life now, pointing to that impossible to spot evidence you somehow saw.

I find it baffling how 343 regards its lore.

First they commission Greg Bear to write the Forerunner novels. Then they deliver Halo 4’s campaign with little background context, expecting fans to read the books or run around like headless chickens looking for obscure terminals.

Secondly they release the infamous diagram telling fans what they need to read and watch in order to understand Halo 5 before then releasing Halo 5 which introduces the existence of Guardians and Armatures as well as the Domain surviving the Flood-Forerunner war the which contradicts lore written by Greg Bear.

Like I don’t even know what they’re trying to do anymore. Don’t they have someone working for them that they can consult on how things go with lore?
