Contingency May As Well Be Called Zombie Slaughter

How many players here actually find this gametype fun?

I love Infection. It is my go-to gametype when I just want to relax and have some fun. Contingency, however, is so far from being fun, it could have its own ocean separating the two terms.

It starts out great with zombies coming out of multiple areas and the survivors being boxed in one room with assault rifles and a few other weapons, everyone is pretty much on an even footing. But then, as the survivors start to make their way through the map and get near the end, as a zombie you start to lose hope of winning because you are now up against chainguns, Warthogs, and a Mantis. And then it gets to a point where you aren’t even bothered about them because you are getting spawn killed. Just making it out of the spawn area alive is an achievement by that point.

It is at that point where I just set down the controller and allow the match to run its course because all of the fun has died.

I like contingency but I definitely understand why a lot of people hate it. When you spawn as an infected in contingency, you have to try your very best to infect at least one other survivor before the next room is opened. Because if you don’t infect at least one person before the next room is open, you most likely already failed because you and your other infected buddy will have a harder time infecting people as the match goes on because only 2 people spawn in infected and as you said before, the game gets harder for the infected as the match goes on. The first intact is always the best time for any map for the infected to infect people and the first intact only lasts around 30-50 seconds. And infected might be able to run, but they can’t boost and they don’t have camo which should be changed. I think out of the 12 people inside a contingency map, 3 people should start out as an infected and the infected should be able to run and boost. They should also have camo. If 343 did all of that. I would think contingency would be fixed. They can keep all of the power weapons and vehicles if all of the infected had camos and could boost. Plus there would be one less survivor each round since there would be 3 starting infected.

I got 4 out of my 6 Killionaires in contingency because it’s probably the easiest mode in matchmaking to get killstreaks. Just the other day I was in a match of contingency where the first place got 3 Killionaires. Sure infection makes Killionaires easier to get but you have to be the last man standing so you can take more than 1 hit and have infinite ammo. Without being the last man standing, it becomes a lot harder to get killstreaks, but contingency makes it easier and you don’t even have to be the last man standing to get an easy killstreak in contingency. You just need the power weapon or power vehicle on the map and you will be able to get a Killionaire easily. And depending on what map you are on, you could get a nice long killstreak easily with just regular weapons. For example, on the map The Burrows, there is a small but long hallway where if there were enough people infected running in it, you could easily kill them all just by shooting randomly in the hallway while standing still and you could easily get a Killionaire.

Man I hate infection in general lol. Though during halo 3 n reach days infection matchmaking n custom games were the bomb.

I’d rather give myself a vasectomy with a rusty wood chipper than play a game of Infection. I only play it with my kids (for some weird reason, they actually find it fun), so I didn’t even know there were different versions of Infection in the playlist. After reading your post I really think Contingency is the reason why I hate Infection as much as I do.

After this double exp event, I shall definitely be sticking to Infection on Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Contingency is terrible. Normal infection and alpha zombies is okayish.

It should have been an temporary addition, everyone betrays eachother, spawn kills or are playing like they are going to win a tournament. Wish it would have been a rotational playlist together with the castle map in the playlist.

I don’t find any Infection game fun. It’s nearly impossible to win(just like in any FFA game). I always get killed by a zombie who somehow dodges my shotgun and then I get repeatedly killed as a zombie because everyone can one shot me.

Contingency is a viable gametype it’s just the maps that are flawed. Playing as a zombie is a nightmare, which only gets worse once players start abusing the maps. The worst offenders are:

  • That one roof you can jump to (I forget the map name) - The ring around the part where you drop down on The Burrows - The wide open area on that map with the CE PistolThe survivors are damn near invincible in these spots.

Also getting out of the spawn area is awful when there are multiple guns trained on your only movement options. Splitting up the zombie spawns and making it easier to get out of them would remedy this. The teleporters “work” but the glitched trail and sound give away what you have done, meaning you can’t sneak up on players.

Contingency is an interesting concept, but it is poorly executed.
