Contantly matched w/ foreign countries. Why?

Let me make one thing clear before I say anything else. I am in no way racist, or attempting to be discriminitory.

My problem with being matched with foreign countries has 100% to do with LAG and 0% to do with their race, creed, etc. So please do not be offended by what I’m going to say. I did not make this clear before and I was banned temporarily from the forums for posting discriminatory content.

My problem is, almost every single game I play I’m matched with either A. Mexico, or B. Canada. Why? I’m in Minneapolis, MN. Shouldn’t I be matched with those who live in this country? Are there not enough people playing to match me with Americans to provide me a better gaming experience?

I’m not saying Canada or Mexico has poor internet, that’s not it at all. It’s the distance between who I’m playing that has a detrimental effect on the game.

When I’m matched with only Americans the game is great, hit detection is great, people die when I shoot them. However when I’m matched with Canada or Mexico I can tell. They are nearly invincible. I say “Hmmm, must be matched with foreigners.” I check their playercard… BOOM, Canada or Mexico.

This has made me so frustrated that I quit out of these games and it has lead to quit bans. I honestly do my team more harm than good by staying in these games.

Is there a way to prevent me from getting matched with foreign countries? It’s really causing problems for me and preventing me from being consistently successful. I’ve forwarded ports, enabled UPnP, it shows my Nat is Moderate. Moderate for me actually plays better than Open.

Unfortunately with H4 pop falling you will continue to find this to be true. The game will sacrifice connection to place you in a game quickly.

If you have done all the network fixes you can on your side (I really suspect an open nat would be better) the only thing you can do is play when the population is high. This increases your chance of being matched to someone nearby.

It happens to all of us, I’m Canadian and I get matched up with players from Mexico.

Talk about luck. I quit out of a match the other day within the first minute due to the lag was just unbelievable, start searching again and end up being right back in the same exact match I quit.

JIP working its magic I guess.

I’m in Canada and I can say our internet providers are less than awful…but the connection itself is usually fine. I doubt you’d be having that much lag with a connection to Canada. I play with a friend constantly who lives in California (I’m on East coast, he’s far west) and we never really experience lag. Only a slight delay in spartan ops but match making is fine.

I don’t know about Mexico…but I find any matches with people from Europe will usually be very noticeable. I can’t imagine what the Aussie’s are going through without a region filter still.

I have no idea why, but in the last 3 days i’ve been matched mostly with US players, and I am ITALIAN.

Well I’ve got an update for you. Matchmaking has gotten a little better since I changed my nat to Open. I’m getting more US lobbies, however now I’m also getting countries like Australia. Doh!

I’m in the UK, and get matched 50% US, 40% UK, and 10% other (estimated of course). Versus UK players, as you would expect the connection is great. Versus US players, usually there’s some noticeable latency, but nothing game-breaking (shots connecting usually .2/3 seconds too slowly, in particularly bad games my actions are up to a second delayed), and versus everyone else I find I tend not to lag but I’ll see whomever it is bouncing around somewhat.

Usually, if I’m experiencing major lag, it’s fault on my end (housemates eating bandwidth, such as the last six games I played on Saturday -shudder-) rather than another players’. In general I find H4s netcoding on par with Reach’s, which gave me pretty similar results.

Lag.The ultimate killer in any FPS game. That said lag is made even worse due to hitscan because they can still hit you even though you took cover behind a wall. Its not too bad but its mostly noticeable in very laggy games. In games with little to no lag i can watch the kill cams and see them shooting me even though i know for a fact i was behind the wall where they cant shoot me.If i cant shoot them, why is it fair that they can.No doubt i have done this in turn many times.Since its a 2 way street.

I just hope that for Halo 5 lag and hitscan problem do not exist because its making me not want to play multiplayer.I rarely get a game without these problems.Which can be tied to regional issues.

343 please invest in dedicated servers for Halo 5, please.I will pay to have access to them.I;m sure many other would as well.

No good connection option. Nuff said.

Best thing you can do after optimizing your connection is to recruit local or even regional teammates.

You can make a post in the recruiting forum as well as checking HaloTracker.com leaderboards, search by region and message people who are in your area that are as similar to your own skill legal as possible.

lol you’ve got it easy buddy, Minneapolis to Mexico City is what, 2,800 kilometers (1,700 miles)?

Try playing on an American host from Australia! mmmmmmm 17,000 kilometers (10,000 miles) worth of lag causing goodness and that’s on top of the generally horrendous lag this game often suffers from anyway (even between players in the same city)

You don’t even know the meaning of lag until you play in Australia against a foreign host…
