"Contacting Server", Please help!

Hey all. Keep getting this message: “Contacting server to get the latest matchmaking data. Please wait.”
I’ve been getting this randomly, and there’s nothing I can do to make it go away. I looked at other forums and they say to head to the roster, click your profile, and sign out then back in to fix it. Problem is, I’m using Halo MCC on the Microsoft store, not Steam. So, when I go to the tab to logout (or switch profiles) in-game, it simply isn’t there.
Suggestions?

When I had this problem I just clicked on my name in the top right and selected switch account. The n I just logged back into the game with the same account and it worked fine for me. I guess there is a weird issue and re logging seems to fix it whenever this happens

There are much bigger problems once you matchmake with some players in this community they have bad souls. The fix you are looking for is pressing the windows key + G at the same time, this will bring up the game bar. Once here, you will see at the top right a gear cog indicating settings, click this. Now on the left hand side you should see ‘Accounts’, click into here, then it should show a sign out option. After clicking this you will be redirected to the main menu and just pressing ‘A’ or left clicking will start the sign in process. Have fun on the battlefield soldier and stay safe!

When you press Start on windows and type Xbox Networking and let it run what are your results ?

you want to have anything below 100ms Ping should be playable.

the Nat should say Open or Moderate

your packet loss should be low, if any

and of course Xbox live services should be up and running as well as Server should say connected instead of blocked.

After running the test a “fix it” button will appear and you should press this and then press the “check again” button. EDIT: you may need to press the windows key and type Xbox Networking and run the test and fix again after the game has launched if it still says connecting sometimes it reverts back to a bad configuration. doing this in conjunction with signing in and out using the method I described above usually works for me after I’ve waited for a long time with the same message.

Hm what are your internet speeds? that is the last thing I can think of other than that you should create a support ticket if you have not already and request proper support sorry I couldn’t get you into the battlefield with my common troubleshooting steps I use.

Dont worry! appreciate the help. MCC cooperates sometimes and others not so much. Thats life without Bungie…

I am also having this issue, however I am on Steam MCC and still get the “Contacting Server” issue after signing out and back on. My NAT type is open and I have killer google fiber for internet. My friend is over on his PC on steam and is having the same issue as me. Any tips, tricks or updates would be appreciated. Thank you

You’re not the only one. I made my own post over a month ago and joined another thread with the same issue. Tried all the countless options given in the forums here and online. I changed settings in router to set up port-forwarding and on command lines(with options from Reddit forums and from Xbox themselves), signed in/out, signed in/out on Game bar, got my NAT to stay open and connected(nevermind the fact that when playing other games like COD:Warzone the NAT always says “open” and works fine when the Xbox app would say “closed.” Sometimes when I changed the settings around it would work, but then next time I played it would not connect again.

I may be on Steam version but I still can’t get mine to connect 8 out of 10 times. I just keep trying, sometimes go play some Campaign for 20-30 minutes and when I come back it’ll be connected. But most of the time it doesn’t connect. I’ve been having this problem since right before the release of Halo 3 on PC back in May/June 2020. It worked FINE up until then too… I played Reach and Halo 1/2 with no problems before then. Still not fixed for good.

There is an issue I’ve read about when two players are on the same connection and trying to play. I don’t have any more information to share on this I don’t recall reading a solution but then again I was just browsing.
