Constructive feedback for the Halo 5 Beta

I would like to share my feedback for Halo 5, I like a lot of things but this post will be focussed around the things I don’t like or would like to see changed or improved.

First of all I would like to see some graphics changes to the game. Everything looks so shiny making the game look kinda cheap instead of beautiful. Showing more of the art instead of making everything shiny would make the game look a lot better and a lot more appealing to the eye. There is also too much sun glare causing some disadvantages in gunfights when the enemy player has the sun in his back. The sunglare causes some blindness making it harder to shoot at your opponent. In Halo 4 there was sunglare but it wasn’t annoying it all unlike in Halo 5. Halo 4 also had more bright and shiny graphics but it still had some very beautiful maps like Daybreak, just loved that map, it looked so good and was just a lot of fun. Just reduce the amount of reflection on metal objects and the amount of bright lightning and you got a big improvement already

Secondly I would like to see some changes to the sounds in Halo 5. The shield sounds are too loud and have a too high frequency making it pretty annoying and distracting.
The hitmarker sounds should be removed as well, hitmarker indicators are enough to notify you are hitting someone and the sound is can be very annoying at times, especially when it gets hectic, there are just too many noices and sounds going on at the same time making it unnecessary more hectic in a bad way.

The look of the Spartans need some big changes. At the moment the armor looks like plastic instead of metal. What happened to the more rough look of the armor? Armor in Halo 5 is shiny making it look fake and like plastic instead of making it look awesome and a lot cooler. I would also like to see the black undersuits return, they looked much better than the current undersuits. The blue team is also a lot harder to spot than the Red Team because they have a slightly more purple and darker look, please change this so they look blue again by removing the purple tint and making the blue color less dark.

The Smartscope feature is pretty good but there are some changes I would like to see to it. The first change I would like to see is a reduced/removed delay when using it with the Sniper Rifle and Rocket Launcher. The second change I would like to see is the amount of accuracy improvements Smartscope gives to weapons. In older Halo games using your zooming function did not improve your accuracy and this should be the case in Halo 5 as well or atleast a lot less than it is right now especially on the Assault Rifle and the SMG. I also would like to see the headshot bonusses for automatic rifles to be removed, they should not be implemented on auto rifles.

The announcer in Halo 5 announces too many medals. It distracts from other more important medals and distracts from the gameplay. I would like to see the amount of announcer announcements reduced to only important/special medals like in Halo 4 and older Halo games. The announcer also sounds a bit too much auto-tuned, I would like it to sound more similar to the announcer from Halo 3/Reach (I know it’s the same guy), he sounded a lot cooler in those games. The last change I would like to see to the announcer is the way he announces gamemodes. Instead of announcing the gamemode description I rather hear him saying just Team Slayer or Strongholds instead of the gamemode description.

The announcer should only announce each power weapon individually so we don’t have to hear power weapon announcements twice when all of them spawn at the same time. So instead of hearing “power weapons ready in 30 seconds” and a follow up saying “sniper rifle ready in 30 seconds” we will just hear the sniper rifle announcement.
Something I noticed in the beta are the large sizes of hitboxes and the big amount of bullet magnetism. I would like to suggest to reduce the size of the hitboxes with a good amount and to reduce the amount of bullet magnetism on all weapons. This would make shooting your enemies harder but this is the way it should be because the hitboxes and bullet magnetism are too big/high at the moment.

I like the new addition of Spartan chatter but at the moment it feels like there is too much of it. I think things like “Nice Kill” and “Thanks for the assist” should be removed, they don’t really fit into a war to be honest. I also would like to see the power weapon announcement removed from spartan chatter so we only have the announcer left announcing power weapons. This would immediately fix the double power weapon announcements.

The Victory and Defeat screen really need to change. I don’t like how it shows a kinda childish screen of the winning team celebrating they won the match. It doesn’t fit Halo at all and really needs to be removed.

I would also like to see some changes to some of the weapons in Halo 5. The Prophet’s Bane is too big and too bright right now, it makes it very hard to spot enemies.
The movement speed is currently at 150% which is simply too high, I would like to see it reduced to 130%. I don’t like the look of the Hydra, it looks like a NERF gun and the design doesn’t really seem to fit in the Halo universe. I think changing the colors of the weapon would make a huge difference. The Rocket Launcher has been changed completely which is sad since it no longer looks like the iconic Halo Rocket Launcher. It looks too similar to a normal rocket launcher because of it’s design and color. It would nice to atleast have the classic color patern return on the Rocket Launcher. Something I don’t like about the Sniper Rifle is the scope, it’s too cluttered so please clean it up a bit. The rate of fire of the Sniper Rifle should also be increased a bit.

I would like to see the power weapon indicators changed to something similar to Halo 2: Anniversary. I like the platforms they spawn on but the green indicator is too big and shows you where to find the weapon across the whole map. Changing it to the Halo 2: Anniversary power weapon indicator would still give you a small icon when you are close to them. Removing the indicator entirely and just keeping the platform hologram would be even better but I don’t think this will happen. If you (343) want to keep a power weapon indicator than I would prefer to see the Halo 4 power weapon indicator return so we can see which weapons spawns.

The armor customization in Halo 5 is lacking at the moment. I hope it’s just because it’s the beta but I really would like to see more armor customization in the full game like changing leg, arm and shoulder armor. I would also like to have more details on the armor pieces that make it look cooler. Use some inspiration from Halo: Reach’s armor, they looked great! Also some special armor like the flaming helmet from Halo 3 would be cool as well.

The user interface needs some changes as well, I would like to see something very similar to Halo:Reach’s user interface. The UI in Halo: Reach gave you all the information you needed and was very user friendly and easy to use.

At the moment I don’t see any use for the slide mechanic, it feels like it’s there just to be there but it’s barely used by anyone, there are matches were nobody even uses it once. I would suggest to just remove it since it has no real purpose. The shoulder charge also like an addition to the game that was not needed, it’s way too inconsistent and it prevents you from assinating someone while sprinting.

My final piece of feedback I have for Halo 5 is about making remix variants of maps. I do like the idea of getting more maps in the final game because of this but at the moment the remix maps need some improvements and I still rather see more unique and original maps instead of having lots of remix variants. Eden needs a big overhaul, the catwalk doesn’t fit the map at all. On Regret everyone is camping on top middle and the lightning is a bit too bright in my opinion.

I would also like to see the killcams to be removed together with the respawn music. Killcams are never fully accuracte and I think most of the Halo fans prefer to help their teammates instead of watching the way they were killed.

I like how you didn’t real;y bash anything about the game, and just stated what you think should be fixed, all of it is mostly correct, I feel as though the Prophets Bane is supposed to block and impair your vision as so to balance it, and I honestly have no problem taking it out with an assault riffle and grenades. If anything I think that glow that the player using it sees should be more prevalent on the spartan model so players can see a guy with the sword coming from around the corner, and that way the guy with the sword cannot blindly rush in like a madman and hack and slash anyone.

In addition, any and all texture and lighting issues on the maps should be the thing most taken with a grain of salt, this is a super early build, and those are the type of things that get worked on last. The Beta is to check for bugs, and settings/weapon tuning mostly. The lighting will likely be fixed later.

About the Prophet’s Bane, I suggested to reduce the movement speed to balance the design changes I suggested.

I know that the game has a long way to go before it launches but I just wanted to share the feedback I had about the art and graphics combinations.

At last, the best way to provide feedback and help a developer is by explaining why you would like something to change or why you dislike something. Bashing a developer has absolutely no use and will not help to improve the game at all.

I pretty much agree with everything you said, good stuff! I personally would like the power weapon announcement removed altogether.
