At times, the forums can be dark and dirty places. Filled with nothing but hate and trash talk. And when a casual Halo-goer comes onto the forums for the first time and sees a large population of the forum trash talking Halo 4, it’s going to sway them to think the same way about Halo 4 as such.
Instead of talking about the negatives of Halo 4 in such a blunt manner, (every game has negatives need I remind you) why don’t we focus on some positives? It’s never a bad idea to keep a positive attitude.
And if there are some things that you don’t like about Halo 4, why not state your dislikes in a friendly and mature manner and discuss how we can make these negatives into positives.
Slamming 343 Industries with hate isn’t going to make things better. If you don’t like something, let your voice be heard! In a professional way of course.
It’s more of a psychological thing, people react to what they like and hate in extreme ways because they feel and over attachment to it or just hating it… Some see it as something that’s popular to hate and just hate it without any logical reason, others try and make up reasons or try and argue a logical one without saying anything more than " dis suxs LOL"
So basically, they feel the need to vent unnessisary anger because they either don’t know how to properly debate the issue at hand, or just act all hipster and do it for the sake of following the crowd… This case just hating everything about halo 4
I’m a casual Halo-goer and on this forum for the first time
Well since only a week or so anyway.
I have to admit, I was a little taken aback by all the anger that seems to be surrounding the forums. I actually joined Waypoint to try and talk about how much I love Halo. Almost none of my friends play games and the ones that do would apparently rather be found dead than playing Halo. I get enough critisism about it as it is
There are threads about the books and toys and they seem to be postive and fun but most threads are kind of depressing.
Luckily I’m not someone who will love Halo less because of that. I have my own likes and dislikes and don’t really care about the opinion of others. If I’d rather spend my Saturday night constructing a Banshee with a beer in my own house than getting wasted in the pub so be it
But jeah, I would love to see some more ‘happy’ threads
When I first joined Waypoint, about a year ago, I didn’t remember seeing so many negative threads. But as time passed, and as 343 started releasing more content and updates, the forums got a bit darker for some reason. I don’t post as much as I used to, mainly because I don’t want to get criticized by all the haters. But in any case, i glad you made this thread OP. It’s nice to see some positive posts for a change

What an absolutely pointless thread.
> At times, the forums can be dark and dirty places. Filled with nothing but hate and trash talk.
Never have the forums been filled with nothing but trash talk. Non-constructive/flaming type posts are in the minority and actually don’t appear too often.
However, I suspect that you’re just classing any type of feedback which isn’t positive, as “trash talk”, simply because it doesn’t align with your personal views.
> And when a casual Halo-goer comes onto the forums for the first time and sees a large population of the forum trash talking Halo 4, it’s going to sway them to think the same way about Halo 4 as such.
What? So we’re supposed to stop ourselves giving feedback which happens to be negative, simply because someone out there might see it and mimic those opinions?
> Instead of talking about the negatives of Halo 4 in such a blunt manner, (every game has negatives need I remind you)
Every game has negatives, therefore there’s no need to point out Halo 4’s? Take a good honest look at your logic.
> why don’t we focus on some positives? It’s never a bad idea to keep a positive attitude.
Who says people can’t do both? Who says people don’t do both?
The game itself will decide the ratio of positive to negative feedback. People talk about BOTH here on the forums. It just so happens that Halo 4 receives a lot more negative feedback, as a reflection of the problems people have with the game, and their lack of enjoyment with the game.
> And if there are some things that you don’t like about Halo 4, why not state your dislikes in a friendly and mature manner and discuss how we can make these negatives into positives.
That’s what the vast majority of people do.
> Slamming 343 Industries with hate isn’t going to make things better. If you don’t like something, let your voice be heard! In a professional way of course.
I believe you mean in a constructive way. No one here is getting played to voice their negative opinions on the game.

> It’s more of a psychological thing, people react to what they like and hate in extreme ways because they feel and over attachment to it or just hating it…
Oh sure… It’s not that the game did many things to anger a lot of fans, but that people are just broken in the sense that they hate for the sake of hating.
Yup… You don’t have to take responsibility for directly countering people’s reasons for disliking the game, if you can just claim that it’s simply a “psychological thing”.
> Some see it as something that’s popular to hate and just hate it without any logical reason,
Without dodging the question, would you care to give evidence to support this claim?
> others try and make up reasons or try and argue a logical one without saying anything more than " dis suxs LOL"
Sure… All you need to do is paraphrase using incorrect spelling, in order to convey a sense of childishness and immaturity. Even though people don’t say “dis sux LOL”.
That’s a common technique for people to use when trying to devalue negative feedback.
I’d love to see you throw out these terribly inaccurate paraphrases, and counter people’s arguments directly.
> So basically, they feel the need to vent unnessisary anger because they either don’t know how to properly debate the issue at hand, or just act all hipster and do it for the sake of following the crowd… This case just hating everything about halo 4
Again, care to provide evidence to support this point?
Just saying something doesn’t make it true, I’m afraid.
Remember that nobody is forcing you to be in this thread. If you find it to be “an absolutely pointless thread” then by all means, take your constructive criticism somewhere else

Trust me, while most of the feedback is negative; people are just very passionate and want to create a better future for the franchise.
Don’t view it in a negative light! I actually think it’s a beautiful thing. This community, for the most part, goes into great detail to explain why they dislike the current direction, and how they think it should be improved.
I’m sure you’ll enjoy your time on these forums.

No thank you. Your thread is open to criticism as much as any other thread, and as you can see from my response, I don’t think you’re making fair or logical points.
So be it, but state you opinions on the game and not the forum posters.
Halo used to have a loud community. I played against a lot of people today and no one had a headset.
I’m just trying to have a good time and some friendly conversations but it was like I was in space.

Enough dude. I mean really, your doing exactly what the OP was talking about. Your being negative in a positive thread. Yes, you are open to your own opinions. But there is a saying “don’t talk unless you anything nice to say”. I read through your posts in this thread, and all I got from them was that your argumentative and negative.

I get that
Sometimes I come across a group of people with headsets on laughing and having a good time, but they never stick around. They always back out… A vocal community would be great!

Agreed! That’s why I stopped playing with randoms. I play with a team that actually communicates with me.
> So be it, but state you opinions on the game and not the forum posters.
Where did this rule come from? I’ll state my opinions on both, thanks.
The subject of your thread, and the arguments you make, are automatically open to being discussed.

You mean I’m giving my opinion, which just happens to be in disagreement with the OP?
Well, that’s how the forums work.
> Yes, you are open to your own opinions. But there is a saying “don’t talk unless you anything nice to say”.
That’s a life philosophy, not a forum rule. Please don’t confuse the two.
Also, you’re shooting yourself in the foot with that saying, as the OP that you are defending is also negative.
I pick up on these things.
> I read through your posts in this thread, and all I got from them was that your argumentative and negative.
So because I happen to disagree quite profoundly with the things that are being said, that automatically males me negative and argumentative by default? Or could it just be that there are certain things I disagree with?
> > And when a casual Halo-goer comes onto the forums for the first time and sees a large population of the forum trash talking Halo 4, it’s going to sway them to think the same way about Halo 4 as such.
It’s about setting a good example. Because if someone new to Waypoint comes on here and sees a bunch of hate, then that new person will more than likely think its ok to always bash 343 and to always look at the negative in Halo 4.
> At times, the forums can be dark and dirty places. Filled with nothing but hate and trash talk. And when a casual Halo-goer comes onto the forums for the first time and sees a large population of the forum trash talking Halo 4, it’s going to sway them to think the same way about Halo 4 as such.
- If you believe these forums are filled with nothing but hate and trashtalk, you have no idea what you are talking about. We’ve got positive threads and negative threads. The problem is that while people call for positive threads, they still go into negative threads to argue and drag those threads out. I remember making a thread praising Chief and Cortana in Halo 4, it didn’t even break a page. Yet a thread where I chastised 343i for what I perceived to be a hatred for the character Dr. Halsey lasted 9 pages.
Go figure.
> Instead of talking about the negatives of Halo 4 in such a blunt manner, (every game has negatives need I remind you) why don’t we focus on some positives? It’s never a bad idea to keep a positive attitude.
Could be many think the good outweigh the bad and what one may consider good may be seen as bad. You can praise Spartan Ops for extending the story and delivering new content each week, I can criticize it for being overly repetitive and uninspired whose story was bonged down by bad characters.
> And if there are some things that you don’t like about Halo 4, why not state your dislikes in a friendly and mature manner and discuss how we can make these negatives into positives.
Folks have, you just haven’t looked hard enough.
> Slamming 343 Industries with hate isn’t going to make things better. If you don’t like something, let your voice be heard! In a professional way of course.
Then again, professionally letting our voices be heard hasn’t done jack -Yoink- for anybody who wanted more custom game options, a local search function, expanded Theater for Campaign and Spartans Ops, a second season of Spartan Ops and a variety of other issues.
All we get are vague “Well we have no plans, but are looking into things” statements that give us hope and then are never brought up for months. Even today the custom game requests haven’t been elaborated on. Theater was bluntly stated to not happening at least.

Really? If someone depends on a forum post to draw their conclusions about this or any other game instead of forming their own opinion by playing the game then that’s just pathetic. That’s the follow the heard mentality (which is ironically what caused many of the problems in Halo 4).
If opinions/facts about what is wrong with this game bother you then don’t read those posts - or start reading them constructively instead of emotively.

Woah, woah, woah. Hold on a second.
“Setting a good example” means only saying nice things about the game? Pretending not to have problems with it?
If someone new comes to the forums, and witnesses that a lot of people dislike many things about the game and go into detail to explain why, then that person is just witnessing reality.
Also, you’re throwing negative feedback and “bashing 343” into the same bag, even though they are entirely separate things, and I am quite clearly speaking about the former.
