I like Halo 4. I enjoy playing it and I can imagine I will stick to it for many nights. But of course, there is stuff I don’t like so I decided to put it all in here. Whether anybody from 343 reads it or not is not my concern. We’re given the privilege to voice our opinion so that’s what I’m gonna do. English isn’t my primary language so don’t nitpick every mistake I make. I also tried to make this at least a bit entertaining so it’s not an old-professor-speech.
- Darn Fireworks
The moment red dots appear on the radar, a hail of grenades is sent that way, resulting in several seconds long blockade of the hallway and the game is frozen for the entire time, because nobody is stupid enough to walk in there. And after that, they’re still hesitant because you never know how many grenades they’ve still got left.
Why that is? IMHO because grenades have too short fuse time, take non-considerable time to throw and aren’t very effective. People don’t think about wasting them for nothing, they just take the chance.
- I don’t enjoy killing you with Boltshot so don’t you kill me with it.
I tested this in customs. Many people compare it to Scattershot because even from regular gameplay, it should be clear that Boltshot has better range than Scattershot.
At range where Scattershot takes 3/4 of your shields, Boltshot kills.
To my great surprise, Boltshot has also longer range than the UNSC shotgun.
Someone might say that that’s the way the weapons are balanced because it needs to charge but you must realize that both Scattershot and Shotgun are power weapons, which are meant to be overpowered and not balanced.
I’m not bothered with Boltshot’s 1SK ability. What bothers me is the range.
To further reassure myself I’m not complaining for nothing, I tried playing a match with nothing but Boltshot. Ended up with decent score and positive K/D.

Weapon despawn times are too short. I understand this is intended to be one of the game’s mechanics… but IMHO the despawn time is just too short nevertheless.
- Battle Rifle is the better choice at short to mid range
Except there is nothing that would actually make it better than DMR at any range.
- Carbine is good because…
Longest reload time, the least damage per magazine, the least stability loss when getting shot by, solo double kills nearly impossible, most effort required, accuracy and zoom not better than BR, killtime worse than DMR… What’s the advantage of using it?
I understand it’s a great finishing weapon but if you intend to use it as a primary weapon, you run out of ammo almost as fast as if you were using magnum, which BTW kills faster.

…but he just did anyway." This is greatly a matter of opinion, but I think sprint should only be used for fast movement around the map. IMHO if you’re getting shot, you shouldn’t be able to sprint at all. And I mean absolutely no sprint when getting shot, not just sprinting slower.

…so we need a clever way of getting them out of th- Wait… Is that a rocket launcher that just spawned right on their camp?"
I don’t want to bash on random weapon spawns, but they shouldn’t be all that random. Power weapons shouldn’t spawn near players. They should be an incentive to move around and try to acquire them.

But not anymore. I’d like “X” to return.
- I don’t even try to melee people anymore…
…because I usually can’t. It’s probably an oversight in mechanics. I regularly am unable to melee people. I lunge towards them but don’t actually hit them. Happens usually when they’re moving away from me.

Maybe replacing it by “One second speed boost” would work better.
- How comes that Promethean grenades…
…are the equivalent of UNSC marines pouring hot water out of wooden buckets?
And the marines are like: “I can carry two buckets! Why do I only get one?”

Plain and simply, no map twice in row. Please!

This doesn’t happen so often but needs to be fixed without debate.
- Challenges
I understand they’re randomly generated but it would be nice to check that the monthly challenge isn’t the same as the previous month.
- Other stuff
-Being able to distinguish parties in the MM menu
-Being able to use analog stick to navigate the scoreboard
-Being able to pick a specialization to be displayed on your card
-Being able to move slowly in forge
-The sound of being a monitor in forge mode not being so loud.
-Music in the menu not being so loud
-Countdown beep not being so loud
-Halo 5 Legendary Edition!
Also, I noticed a bug, glitch whatever… with the regeneration field. If you’re deploying the field and try to move at the same time, it does all kinds of shenanigans. It seems like it’s caused by lag mostly.
I repeatedly managed to deploy it twice, creating a nice effect. Only one of the fields was working tho.
Also, the field sometimes doesn’t work after being deployed. Mostly happens on uneven terrains. I’d say it is because the “source” has phased into the ground but considering the field works even through walls… I don’t know, really.
Another thing I noticed is that the field would be active (=would trigger shield regeneration) few seconds after it has visually disappeared. I also noticed this has been probably fixed already in the matchmaking, as my shields start regenerating but then immediately go back.
