Constantly reinventing the wheel isn't what Halo Fans want

  • Oddball being played in rounds
  • King of the Hill playing closer to Total Control rather then original KOTH.
  • Team Snipers adding Maulers/Skewers/Stalker rifles./Pulse Carbines
  • Sniper Glint
  • Territories

These missteps show a crucial misunderstanding of what makes Halo fundamentally a great game to play. In an effort to preserve up and coming beloved modes such as Infection please stop trying reinventing the wheel.

Halo has a lot of strength in the tried and true game types… stick to that.

At this point this is just 343’s specialty.

It’s not just there dude. It’s customization, it’s map format, it’s menu UI, every design format implemented in halo was done without the common fan in mind. All they want is for this game to basically function like warzone and Fortnite.

I’ll say it again. FORTNITE IS THE WORST THING TO HAPPEN TO GAMING SINCE ET.

Honestly they just need to drop forge ASAP and reintroduce the social list like they did. Us players can build better game modes at this point.

But, but, but…

I like Oddball being played in rounds. It works well.

I’m loving KOTH.

I haven’t played Snipers yet. But I welcome the Skewer (we’ve used it in Custom games). Not so much the others. Still can’t believe they didn’t use the Shock Rifle. And I’m not sure about their choice of having secondary weapons. So, probably with you on this one.

Sniper Glint. Meh. If you see the glint the player wasn’t really that good were they.

Territories? If you are referring to Land Grab. I really like it. But it sucks a bit as a solo player. You really need that team co-ordination happening, even more so than other games.

Urgh. Not a fan. See, we come in all shapes.

I really don’t have a problem with trying new things. I agree that not everything works. But it’s better than just spinning the same wheel over and over.

Oh? You want insert classic Halo gametype here?

We hear you; but we have to do laboratory intensive studies to ensure other game modes health won’t be impacted. I just hope you’re ready to accept that when your requested game type finally releases, it will not be the same as the classic you know and love. We will be adding unnecessary changes.

-343, probably.

@Sickjen [Constantly reinventing the wheel isn’t what Halo Fans want]

I’m going to let you in on a little secret, 343 doesn’t care about the Halo fans, they care about the new players and the money they will drop on this whatever you call it. Just about everything they have done since launch has been steering away from what a Halo game actually is. They are making something new, just using the name “Halo” and riding off of that.

I mean they literally based the open world campaign off of Zelda, and that alone should tell you there is something majorly wrong here.

IMO what they should be doing as a developer is work with what has worked for Halo and go from there, but what do I know, right?

I don’t want the same thing over and over.

Honestly there needs to be optional choices of game modes. MCC had a great interface

Sniper glint was already in Halo 5. It’s perfectly fine and balances out the Snipers quite well. No idea why people are complaining about that particular thing at all ngl.

The rest of your post applies though.

If Halo was never reinvented we’d still be pistol whipping in CE v6. Change is the only constant in this universe.

Tbh this is the first game since Halo 2 where there isn’t a map, mode or weapon I don’t like. So I’ma say they’re doing something right (or at the very least they have me dialed in).

I have been saying it. They always have to put that 343 spin on it.

They are so desperate to try and not be Bungie, that they are willing to just strip away what makes things enjoyable just so it’s different

That still doesn’t make much sense though.
People enjoyed Halo 4.
People enjoyed Halo 5.

Why change Halo 4’s campaign/story in H5 if it was the one thing people liked the most about Halo 4?
Why change Halo 5’s MP/Forge/WZ/etc in HI if it was the one thing people liked the most about Halo 5?

It straight up doesn’t make any logical sense when 343i is attempting to change things they’ve already done, let alone everything they did change or improve off of Bungie’s own Halo titles.

Sure I’d agree the constant changing of things is something not always liked but with game mode it can always be the case they have the classic modes made already and just have evolved modes there to try out., always worth investigating if you ask me

Not just Fortnite but live service creeping into AAA games.

Just because it works for MMOs and MMO lites doesn’t mean it’s going to work for an arena based FPS.

I’m looking forward to seeing how they screw up infection.

See, I get why 343i feel like they need to add something. I mean it has been like what? 12 years since 343i took over from Bungie and they’re still in their shadow. But I mean these changes could’ve easily been passed to the community to test and see what they think.

Swat with Mangers? Who even asked for that?
Team Snipers with Stalker Rifles and Pulse Carbines? Who thought that was a good idea?
They didn’t even add the shock rifle to Team Snipers, that’s literally a Sniper and they forgot about it :joy:
FFA Oddball… why?

If 343i want to make meaningful changes then they can, just don’t change what we already like.
Elimination is awesome, LSS (Last Spartan Standing) isn’t too bad, they added Dominion in Halo 4 which was awesome, and even Action Sack in Halo 5.

343i can make some great stuff, they just need to stop revinventing the wheel.

Ngl tho. I reap soul’s in FFA oddball. That’s an okay one in my book. Otherwise I 100% agree. Couldn’t have said it any better unless you were screaming directly at them

Your point about Oddball and KotH is something I agree with.

Oddball has no reason to be played in rounds afaik, and is only there to incentivize teamplay through occasional wipes. Not sure how that’s worked out as I don’t play enough Oddball to notice a difference, though I will say first to 200pt a la 2/3 is preferable and makes for more dynamic gameplay and shorter matches, as the risk-reward factor is otherwise higher. Seems a minute, unnecessary change at the least.

King of the Hill is the same boat, there’s an awful lot of Hill variants in Infinite eh? Imo KotH is best when there’s a designated Hill, and again it acts as a first-to-200 system. The added complexity with rounds, charge-up times, and a meter granting one point are well enough, but could this not have just been yet another KotH variant rather than the OG we wanted? I feel a trend here is the obsession with rounds. Could this be an internal push towards a more streamable, “competitive” game? For the casual-competitive crowd, it feels that way it seems. I would prefer playing three games of KotH than playing four rounds in one either way. That’s not to say of course that this new KotH version is bad, I just think giving it a different name and having OG Hill as well would have been preferable. Don’t fix what isn’t broken.

Team Snipers having so many variants is emblemativ of an overall flood of variants in every playlist that I’ve seen. I don’t think players had Stalker Rifle Team Snipers in mind when we asked for more gametypes back in January. It feels like a gametype that belongs in Action Sack or Rumble Pit, if the Stalker Rifle or Skewer performed as the Sniper Rifle does (1stk headshot, 2stk bodyshot line-gun), I feel as though no one would care. But if this were the case… wouldn’t the Skewer and Stalker Rifle essentially be anachronisms? Mangler Team Snipers is a joke though however you look at it!

Imo Sniper Glint isn’t that bad and is the same archaism as reticule bloom. It’s largely unnecessary, but until I see imperical evidence (please if someone wants or has a post/video about this, reply and I’ll gleefully switch my opinion) suggesting that glint negatively effects gameplay for the Sniper to the point of sniping being weakened overall, then I feel as though it’s fine. Still though, I really hate when 343i finds it necessary to “keep up with the competition” in implementing gameplay features such as this- it comes of as jarring and uninspired, if not pandering. I feel as though the glint is on the list of least offensive things in this category however, and I welcome it to stay provided it has more positive effects than negative ones.

Live Service is amazing if the studio can handle it and the publisher doesn’t pursue predatory schemes and consumer payout optimization to make it work. I would love yearly campaign add-ons, as well asnew maps and sandbox weapons every season, but I think this studio needs some time to re-adjust to get that content out there, as it seems like initially this game wasn’t meant to be that. Having Jospeh Staten and the old visual style back were enough to give me hope again, let’s hope that this game last for many years and progressively gets better to prove us wrong! <3

The problem is devs and publishers will use live service as an excuse to launch a game in an unfinished state as seen with the launch of Halo Infinite. Live service has done far more harm than good for the video games industry.
