For the past few days, I have been experiencing constant lag. For example, in SWAT, I shot this guy and he shot me, but it took us awhile for the bullets to actually come out and shoot us both. It’s just annoying lag.
But then, I’ll get the odd game where there’s little, or even no, lag.
I reckon something has gone wrong with the servers and the host selection system is out of order as the last month lag has been significantly worse.
It’s like an random connection is chosen as host and often puts everyone yellowbar or worse but a host change never happens and the match remains unful from start to finish unless the host quits.
Over the last month I’ve been in matches where everyone was orangebar or worse and the host quits and I get host and everyone is green or rarely yellowbar (sometimes Europeans get yellowbar on my host but Americans are almost always greenbar) so it’s not my connection.
I’ve also been experiencing micro stutter FPS issues on these really bad orange/redbar hosts so I have stopped playing the game. Putting up with lag is bad enough but when your framerate is choppy and objects are glitching around a match goes from irritating to completely frustrating.
Other than making sure you networking gear is in good order and your NAT is open there isn’t a lot you can do.
Lack of any real testing when it comes to host selection may have just shown its head as Reach in my experience elects even worse hosts than Halo 3 with generous detection times being the only saving grace.
