Across all main Halo FPS titles (CE, 2, 3, ODST, 4, 5, 5 Forge, and Infinite) it would be really nice if the statistics for weapons and player abilities were:
- Consistent with regards to damage, range, clip size, etc. So the Magnum is the same every game in appears, BR, AR, etc.
- If they do change, then offer a logical, in-game explanation:
Example: in Halo 2, you pick up Magnum expecting the CE experience but it’s NOTHING like it. The game devs force you to the BR, which isn’t a bad weapon, but inconsistent experince.
Example: in Halo 4, you wake up on the Dawn from Halo 3. Until you meet up with the Infinity crew or find Infinity weapons, you should start with the exact same UNSC weapons that were in Halo 3. Same textures, behavior, etc. Then, when you meet up with Infinity folks, Palmer talks about it being time to upgrade to newer weapons. It would be a great way to see progress or at least explain the differences. - Master Chief dies like a snowflake in hell in Halo 2. An angry grunt passes gas and you die. Especially on legendary. I’ve played every Halo game the first time through on legendary and it’s not a consistent experience. Hands down, the ODSTs in Halo 3: ODST are more resilient than the Chief. From CE to Halo 2, 3 & 4 Chief’s in the same suit of Armor. Shield strength and recharge rates should be exactly the same. Maybe they are, but it certainly doesn’t feel that way.
- Grenade count is not consistent across the games. This is annoying. It changes in Halo 3 for no real reason.
- Vehicles. Sigh. It’s just annoying across the board. Performance is not consistent and the introduction of “heating” up guns so you have to wait is just irritating.
- Dual wielding. This was so cool in Halo 2 but the nerfed it in Halo 3 (magnum was junk, can’t dual-wield needlers) and then just disappears from the other games. Why? Makes no sense.
I understand that game devs try to change things, etc. but changing things just to change things is so frustrating as a player. At least offer in-game explanations for why things change. From Halo 4 to Halo 5, Chief clearly gets new armor but there’s no improvement. It feels like the Covies and every other enemy gets more advanced but the UNSC never makes the Chief any better. We get new weapons, but they don’t hit harder or make it feel like you’re seriously dealing damage.
