If there’s one thing that drives me crazy in a video game it’s when you’re able to do all these awesome things in campaign, but as soon as you’re in the multiplayer section, you are stripped of your super cool campaign abilities. This is one of the reasons I’ve always admired the Halo series. It is consistent throughout the entire game. If you can mow down enemies with a warthog in campaign you can do it in multiplayer. If you can hijack an enemy from their vehicle in campaign, you can do it in multiplayer. If you can nail an enemy in the back and they drop like a sack of potatoes in campaign, you sure as heck can do it in multiplayer! So, if you can climb up an elevator shaft in campaign, shouldn’t you be able to climb other things in multiplayer?
That’s why I really dislike scripted gameplay. COD is notorious for their quicktime events and they drive me crazy! If I get blown out of the passengers seat in a freak explosion and somehow survive, should’t I always land on my back with muffled ears and blurred vision while I get up and shake it off? If I have to rapidly tap A to open a blast door, shouldn’t I have to do the same to flip a scorpion tank over on it’s treads again? If chief puts his gun on his back to run faster and become more agile, shouldn’t I be able to do the same at any point in the game? It just needs to be consistent in my opinion! I want it to take some effort to be a futuristic super soldier!
Maybe I’m crazy for wanting this, but I think it really adds to the realism of a game when the controls are universal regardless of what part of the game your playing. Maybe we won’t see this kind of gameplay in Halo 4, but it would be awesome to see it in the next two games.
