Many people have mixed opinions about where the future of halo should lie. Should it continue to progress or should it go back to its roots? That being said i’d like the community to come together and voice one progressive opinion and one conservative opinion each regarding future Halo titles.
For instance:
Conservative
Get rid of ordinance drops
Progressive
Keep Sprint
I rather like ORD though. Maybe instead of outing it in halo 5 they could base it off of player skill.
example: one player earns the ORD through assists mainly. he gets lower stuff like nades and needler
but lets say another player goes on a killing frenzy with some headshots so he earns some better drops like a sniper saw and OS or DB.
That or we could do tiers like invasion where the better team over time would get a better chance at earning better drops.
Both ideas still have randomness to them just a bit more controlled.

Is it even a question between conservative and progressive? The conservative play style made halo a phenomenon and the #1 game on xbl.
The “progressive” playstyle brought us the boltshot, armor lock, and sprinters running away/double meleeing all while causing halo to lose players.
Learn from history, or be doomed to repeat it. Just look at cod, they dont throw away their basic formula and they stay king, sounds alot like Halo ce-3 to me.

Im all in favor of returning to the classic formula, but sadly a lot of people enjoy the new halo. I just want to level the playing field so they get their opinions like us.

Do you think Halo would have continued to gain popularity up to Halo 3 if Halo 2 had players starting with the 3 shot pistol and never bothered with the Carbine or Battle Rifle? That was definitely a progressive change at the time.
Anyways, I don’t consider keeping sprint “progressive”, it is part of Halo now. Removing it would be regressive.
I like the idea of personal ordinance, but as it currently is… I don’t think it really belongs in arena-style gameplay.
I’ve created a custom Slayer variant which combines both old school arena style with the new Infinity Slayer, a hybrid if you will. I’ve also made a few changes to one of Halo 4’s arena maps (Haven) to accommodate this gametype & I’m currently building a map in Forge specifically for arena gameplay.
With the current settings I believe it could work, but I’ve yet to do some thorough testing & refinement in customs. If anyone’s willing to help me in my quest to make this game fun & more challenging, it would be much appreciated.
Add me if you’d like to participate, and give some some constructive feedback. Any criticism is welcome.

I am very conserned by what you just said here, very. If I am sitting there spawn killing you, by your logic I should recieve an incin’ cannon. You however should only get a speed boost. If I am doing better is that not good enough? Why reward me for doing good, I am alreay doing so, I don’t need any more help. I don’t like the randomness but this is not the answer.
Lets say I am scoring objective points or teamshooting but I don’t get many kills, mostly assists. I should get weak stuff while the guy stealing kills should be rewarded? No. I would rather see (assuming we keep ORD, which I would rather remove) it be set weaker items that only assist you player and not overly adcance your playing. Like if you had limited opions like only speedboost, needler, granades, and starting waepons came in them. They could act as resupplies rather than getting a power weapon anywhere on the map.
My point is that because a player is better does not in ANY way mean he should get better stuff than a not as skilled player, that is not halo in any regard or a good idea in any game.
A vast majority of us would all love to see Halo go back to it’s roots; and honestly, that’s what I’d love to see. Sadly enough, I feel like things such as AA are now part of the “new” Halo experience, if you will. With that said, changes could be made to make H5 into a more classic Halo experience.
Here’s my ideas…
- Just get rid of ORD. Do I even need to explain myself?
- Armor Abilities. Either scrap them, or make them map pickups (much like how camo or OS were in H3). This would add another level of competition to the game. Map control would finally become useful again!
- NO RANDOM WEAPON SPAWNS. I’m still trying to figure out 343’s logic behind this one.
- Dedicated servers please!
No random weapon spawns.
Ordnance is just Damage Boost, Overshield, Speed Boost, and grenades. You get a choice of two powerups and a grenade. Requisition would still be relevant.
That’s the simplest things I think they can do to go A LONG WAY on the changes they made without breaking anything new they put in there.
Map control is important again and you don’t have power weapons spamming you from every angle.
