When I’m playing Halo’s various campaigns I tend to enjoy fighting alongside my friendly npcs just as much as I enjoy killing the enemies.
This is a feature that is sadly underrepresented in 4/5 with awful npc ai and little opportunity to fight with marines, elites or Spartans.
Part of that was protecting my marines as Master Chief, fighting as the super soldier hero you are totted to be. It was great. You know what only further emphasised the moment to moment life or death?
The consequences of my own actions. If I messed up, it was my life or that of my marines on the line. That should also be the case in Infinites campaign.
Halo Infinites marines are some of the funniest and most competent allies in a Halo game we’ve ever had. It’s just such a crying shame there are so MANY restrictions in place to avoid having a fully immersed and real experience with them.
Marines should;
- Be susceptible to friendly fire
They shouldn’t feel locked off, they are living beings in this world just like the enemies we fight. If I accidentally shoot them, run them over. That’s on me.
It can also, from time to time be hilarious.
- Should be any able to get on the scorpion and in ANYONE’S vehicle
Remember in Halo 3, when the game would drop an extra hog if you had a player 2 for them to bring marines? With Infinites open world, we could make our own ‘vehicle sections’ and should be able to.
- Follow you into main missions
I truly believe 343 should be constantly adding to Infinites existing campaign as they improve the game overall and work on new experiences as well.
Adding the Spiker? Give it to half the brute minors, ect.
Allow the pilot to drop off marines we’ve saved into missions with us, or call in reinforcements using the Weapon. Just like Foehammer & Cortana in CE.
Allow marines still linked to us via the squad system to be loaded into the mission segments we enter.
I brought about 5 marines to the Bassus mission to check out the laser. Dudes just got deleted my the laser, not cool 343.
- All these things, are about rewarding or punishing your actions and decisions. Something essential to a good video game. Love ya, Halo.
