So it seems to be a pattern when playing Halo 5 multiplayer and I am curious if anyone else feels this happens frequently. Send out the invites to my xbox party to create our fire team. Everybody is successfully loaded into the lobby. Start searching for ranked game, generally either slayer or team arena, find game. Shortly after finding a game we all get a failure to connect message, hit okay. Another failure to connect message pops up, hit okay. Try again and it seems to work. Does the first attempt fail often for anyone else? Once we get going, the match making is then flawless.

Sorry op I have no friends.
This happens frequently to my fireteam usually just does it to one person, but that still forces us to restart and regroup. Even when playing by myself I notice people getting kicked and the spot being filled before the game starts. We usually just end up playing something else unless a miracle happens and we all get into a game without someone being kicked.

EXACT same thing happens to me! It happens 100% of the time on my first attempt to play Halo after previously closing the game. Once I get the two red error screens, everything is fine until I close and reopen Halo. I have 2 Xbox One’s in the house and they BOTH do the same thing. Both are using the optical disc - not digital download. Had a friend bring his console over and his did not have this issue so it is not my Internet connection. And I think he has the digital download version too.
This issue started about the time that Xbox had all those issues with people not being able to join with digital downloads. During that time, only those with optical discs worked. Now it seems the opposite is true - at least until you get past the dual Red Screen of Death messages. NAT is open, etc.
Getting annoying!!
Exact same issue here. I just upgraded my internet and received new equipment, same issues with Halo as my old router, so I know its not on my end.

Do you have the Halo 5 optical disc or the digital download? Just trying to prove or disprove my theory…

Digital
Happens to me 100% of the time on a clean start.
Happens to me all the time. At this point I’ve mastered the solution, it’s just another chore.
Problem solved! So quick answer is to reset Xbox to factory defaults but keep data. You should pay attention and make sure not to delete all of your game data as it will take a long time to download or install again and it is not needed. After this procedure I have played daily for several months without the connection error when first launching Halo. Hope this message finds others with this problem and improves their experience.
You will be required to go through your Xbox setup process again like when you first bought it. Make sure you know your password!
I still would like to know what the underlying technical issue really is.
Which product is the root cause? the console or the game?
A factory reset is quite the thing.

A link to factory reset:

A factory reset is not difficult and does not take a lot of time. Its a procedure that Microsoft publishes and encourages its use for troubleshooting purposes.

Entirely agree. Sounds like mahoosive overkill and there’s no guarantee that the issue won’t just reoccur.
Workaround maybe… but I’m not putting myself through the pain if it’s just going to happen again.

For me its less painful than your first match always getting an error and screwing up your fire team where some get in to the game and some don’t. If you play daily the time spent burning your first match before joining your friends fire teams will add up to more than the reset very quickly. For those of you who have not done a factory reset, I have and my opinion is that its easy and fast. Its like bringing home a new Xbox, not a big deal. If you have the problem described above, its your call but I bet most would want to resolve it.
Same issue. I matchmake fine and just before game is to start I get ‘Attention - Problem with dedicated server’. Happens every time for first game, second time is fine. Started happening when moved the digital download from HDD to SSD.
