So I think I’m a pretty good shot overall and improving. And then in matchmaking, there’s always some guy on the other team who is just insanely good at getting more kills. I always check their rank after the match, and to my surprise they are actually a way lower rank than me. Am I just a bad shot and need more practice? It’s clear rank has nothing to do with ability.
Sometimes you gotta look at damage dealt stat. If someone put in 3k damage in a match of slayer and only got a handful of kills while another dude got the most kills with less than half the damage dealt, he basically just finished off all the weak enemies. Which is important to the game too…I’d argue more than straight up kills. Don’t chase a kill if your team mate can conveniently pick it up so you don’t end up too weak to fight the next enemy whom may already be ready to engage you.
My shot is sometimes pretty decent, and sometimes it just sucks man. I’m an older dude so my thumbs bug the heck outa me from having such a crappy set of hands due to the work I’ve done all my life.
I think a decent shot is at least 50% accuracy in a game where you dealt a good deal of damage. Going to 60% means you’re pretty on fire that match. Like you’ve had a good set of matches, the confidence is there, totally warmed up. Going below 50% is when you’re struggling to hit your targets. The times your aim% doesn’t matter is if you’re the type of player to pre shoot areas and try and shoot around at someone who might have camo. If it’s just straight up shooting enemies the whole time and your accuracy is low, then your shot needs work.
Putting that into context tho…someone who has great accuracy at the gold tier rank more than likely would not have that same accuracy facing high plat to daimond players. Same theory applies to the higher tiers as well. The higher rank you play, it’s usually a given they know how to strafe better and use advanced skills during a fight. It becomes more and more difficult to hit your target while you find it becomes easier for them to hit you if you’ve basically reached your current skill potential rank and can’t move up. Rank does play a factor. It’s also unknown how far up the player you’ve face will go that season too you know? What if hes currently lower than you but at the end of the season is potentially a full tier above you?
Things to improve your shot would be playing swat (strictly to build the muscle memory of hitting that annoying last headshot we always seem to miss) octagon matches (great tool to handle pressure, build accuracy and your strafe), and finding out what settings work best for you. If you have sloppy aim all the time, lower the sensitivity and aim acceleration. If you experience slow turn and it’s annoying then adjustment the acceleration.
Use your left stick more than your right stick. It’s a very common advice given. You might know all this already but in case not that’s something to consider.
Sorry if the reply is too long, and I know I’m not that good…but if someone like me can improve with that advice adopted from other players I’m sure it can help someone else in need of it.

It’s because a lot of people have 10 smurf accounts for some reason or because there mmr is lower than their csr so they get stuck lower than they should be.
Over the years the easiest way I’ve found to improve my game is to utilize the theatre. If someone is heads and tails above the competition, open theatre and follow them for the match. You will be surprised how much you will learn. Aim is important, but proper positioning is paramount. Be unpredictable, come at your enemies from odd angles and anticipate their movement. If your playing 4v4 always be aware of where your teammates are and be available to help team shot.
Hope this helps

thanks for the great tips
Sometimes they are just second accounts and their real one is much higher
Not to mention EU players on US servers and vice versa. You can destroy better players if you are in the right side of the connection.
