Confusing timeline

Halo 4 takes place in the year 2553. Halo legends (origins) takes place in the year 2556. How are master chief and cortona still in space if halo 4 has them landing on the legendary planet?

I don’t know why people think that Halo 4 takes place in 2553. Frank has said several times that Cortana is 7 years old, which places it in 2556-2557, after Origins.
Now Glasslands takes place in 2553 and the 2553 Warthog will appear in Halo 4.

Where was it said Halo 4 would take place in 2553?

I wouldn’t look for an in-universe answer to this question. The simple fact is that different Halo products are created at different times, by different people, and the idea that they will all be neatly slotted into one big, canonical timeline is optimistic at best.

Indeed, they should have kept it just simple and in the game itself.

> Indeed, they should have kept it just simple and in the game itself.

I agree. I generally don’t like extended universe material, and Halo’s is no exception.

The things I dont get about the timeline is the fact that Halo: Fall of Reach take place in 2542 yet Halo Reach is in 2552, also there is two versions of the story regarding Cortana. Also, (SPOILER) Linda was killed and the chief took her onto the Pillar of Autumn and put her into cryo, yet she’s in the book Ghost’s of Oynx! WTF??? :S

> Also, (SPOILER) Linda was killed and the chief took her onto the Pillar of Autumn and put her into cryo, yet she’s in the book Ghost’s of Oynx! WTF??? :S

( spoiler alert )

linda was put in a cryo tube on the pillar of autunm, during the crash on the halo ring the cryotube was ejected into space where john found her in his longsword floting trough space

Why are you using spoilers for a book over ten years old? There isn’t anything relevant to Linda For you to even spoil.

You people here grossly over use and abuse that spoiler method.

You can also think about peaple who haven’t read all the book and make the smal effort of putting the word spoiler in front of it

i’f seen people on the forum saying that they are now reading the books for the first time i dont want to spoil anything for another halo fan

Read no further than this. Halo 4 will take place a few years after the events of Halo 3. This gives enough time for any possible reinforcements to have vastly more advanced technology via information derived from recent novels.

You do understand that means every single thread needs to be labeled with spoilers correct?

i’m only talking about the books ( games are also for the playin part an the story part books are only for story dont want to spoil that )

this is the last i thing i will say on this matter

good day sir.

That is so stupid and you know it.

Unfortunately you got one of the bad printings of the book. This has since been corrected. I had the “2542” version of ‘The Definitive Fall of Reach’ when it was first reissued, but was able to exchange it to the corrected 2552 version. As far as I know only 2 out of several print runs had the 2542 error in it. Even the old 2001 version had the 2552 dates in the chapter headings.

There was apparently an OXM article that said Halo 4 would take place in 2553.

An OXM Magazine said that Halo 4 would be in 2553. Though its pretty obvious that they didn’t really know what they were talking about, mainly because there wasn’t a source for the date. Origins takes place in 2556, when Cortana is about 7 years old, which is what Frankie said will be the time of Halo 4. I think Frankie is a better source, but it still hasn’t been confirmed what date is true.

You are being a complete -Yoink-.

Leave him alone. He only did it out of consideration for others and you’re treating it like he was offending someone in some way. Get over yourself and your narrow-minded elitist ways.

Did you read first strike? And the 2542 was already a confirmed typo, fixed in later editions.

My book says 2552. Yours would be a typo.

Also, read the book again. The reason why he put her into the cryotube. Now, I understand you are reading Ghosts of Onyx. It’s an excelling book. But there was a book between those (not counting the Flood, which I will substitute the actual game for), called First Strike. It’s written by Eric Nylund as well, and it too is excellent and explains what you need to know about Linda (and lots of other things).
