In the H5 prologue, before Osiris drops onto Kamchatka, Halsey says “before this is over, they will order you to kill us both.”
How did this tie into the rest of the campaign at all? Locke and his team were very specifically ordered to bring Chief home (for a stupid reason too). It just feels like such an out of place piece of dialogue compared to how the rest of the campaign played out. It almost feels as if there was originally a different story alluded to by the marketing & various pieces of dialogue, that was scrapped late in development for what we have currently. I don’t get it.
Remember the beginning to Halo 4. I don’t know if that intro tied into anything later, but this technically isn’t the first time. Although, what if they were connected?
I have wondered that for months now. Im convinced that the story was gutted similar to h2. Some of the cutscenes just stop unnaturally as well and this just furthers my belief.

I felt that the prologue in H4 tied in perfectly to the rest of the game. Halsey is being asked if she thought Chief was losing his mind/mentally breaking. A huge theme of the game is Chief searching for his humanity & raising the question “how will he function without cortana?” That whole story arc was brilliantly done when you compare it to H5

Yeah. another quote that threw me off was when Locke told Buck “you’re not the only one that’s here because of him” and then the cutscene ends with no explanation. You THINK that with the obvious set up there, you’re going to be given an answer, but nope. So frustrating.

I’d say we are going to have to wait and see in Halo 6. Master chief and Halsey have arguably more knowledge then everyone around them and that kind of makes them wild cards. ONI and probably the UNSC aren’t going to be able to trust them anymore. In Humanities eyes MC is the reason Cortana has become a major threat bc he was to emotionally attached to stop her. We can assume that Cortana could have done what she did with or without chief so he’s not the problem. If anything he’s probably going to be the only one able to persuade her or stop her in Halo 6. The UNSC and ONI are not going to want MC dealing with Cortana again in fear of things become worse than they already are so of course he is going to go against his superiors to either save Cortana or stop her in a way they deem unrealistic or to risky. Halsey is probably going to play a role and have some sort of way to either fix Cortana or stop her. Halsey, having technically started this problem by creating Cortana and also being a war criminal, can’t be trusted to take part in the events unfolding. Halsey and MC will have to break every rule to end the conflict which will cause the UNSC or ONI to order fireteam Osiris to stop them. She probably foresees all of this being the genius she is. Halsey was probably the reason humanity survived all of these events yet she is treated like a war criminal. She can safely assume Osiris will be the next major game players so she’s giving Locke insight to whats to come. Instead of being the trained dog the UNSC and ONI want Locke to be, Halsey is giving him time to ponder whether or not he should be with them or against them.

Didn’t Locke tell him that because Chief saved humanity X many times, which is why ALL of them are alive. Why would we need a cutscene. It would be nice, but to put a cutscene in for clarification?

No, I think Locke meant it in the “you’re here performing this particular assignment because of him” sense. Yes? No?

I disagree, because Buck brings up his distaste for the mission at hand while Locke keeps his cool. Locke says “a target is a target”, but Buck persists and letting him know this isn’t any target. Finally, Locke ends the conversation with “You’re not the only one that’s here because of him” letting Buck know that he understands.

I figured all of this was very clear. Chief saved humanity. They are all there because of Chief.
