Hopefully someone can answer this for me.
I was interested when I heard that 343 wanted to tie together what they called the 3 core components of Halos gamplay; single player, versus, and co-op by creating the UNSC Infinity and developing a simple, common sense explanation that would pull all three together under the arch of a single story… particularly the versus aspect of Halo’s gameplay.
So they give us War Games, the newly monikered multiplayer part of Halo 4, which takes place entirely aboard a holo-deck on the ship. cool. that explains why there’s spartans running around shooting one another. they’re practicing.
But where’s the eplanation for that ‘in-game’?
I picked up Halo 4 last night and had expected to see some kind of cut scene that would have played before loading up multiplayer for the first time… and there was, but it was just a short video of a bunch of ships floating through space with a voice over proclaiming how mankind is no longer the the doorstop of the universe. And then I’m right there at the multiplayer set-up screen. Alright…??? Whatever. that did nothing.
Where’s the expanation for Infinity? War Games? the holo-deck? Why would 343 proudly hype this up durinig the months leading to Halo 4s release and then fumble the ball so completely explaining it in-game. duh!!
I know it’s trivial, but it annoys me.
What if I’m new to Halo. Didn’t bother watching any developer interviews or read through any forum posts about 343’s take on the Halo universe. How would I know that War Games is a virtual reality sim that takes place on the Infinity?
again. 343. Why bother creating the explanation if you’re not going to explain it for people.
If you’re going to so completely rip-off the narrative for why multiplayer exists from Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood… at least take the time to show a video explaning it. You know, like they did.
